Latin Flavors Now Infused in Breakfast: Dulce De Leche Cheerios Review

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 Leave a Comment

Remember when I mentioned I'm not much of a cereal eater? That's probably the oddest little statement you'll ever read, but it's true. I didn't grow up eating cereal. As a Latina, my Mami and Papi fed us foods like tortillas con frijoles, migas, y arroz con leche. They were staples in my little casita. You, rarely, found us eating a cold breakfast like cereal.

Things have changed since I've become a Mom (and ironically married into the Anglo culture). My husband loves him some cereal and has passed that little morning habit onto my children who opt for a "cold breakfast" any day. So, what's a Latina Momma to do? Well, thanks to General Mills, moms everywhere can bring a beloved traditional Latin flavor to their family´s breakfast table with new Dulce de Leche Cheerios. Can we say delicioso?

About Dulce De Leche Cheerios:

With a hint of caramel flavor, Dulce de Leche Cheerios, provides a delicious and tasty start to your family´s day while delivering key health benefits expected from a cereal made with whole grain and 6 grams of sugar per serving. Be among the first to taste this new twist on a familiar classic.

Momma Findings:

I know you want to know. Does it really taste like Dulce De Leche? If you've ever tasted this distinct flavor, it's very sweet, almost too sweet. I don't know about you, but I can't eat too much of it.

So I was leery of trying this cereal, just for that fact. I love that the cereal is different shades of tan. My 4-yr-old has this horrible reaction anytime I offer him plain cheerios. They have to have some kind of color with either fruit mixed in or, like these, different shades. What's up with preschooler and their visional stimulated brains at breakfast? It's JUST during that time when my kids like to refuse the breakfast I prepared and, essentially, don't have time to eat.

Anyhow, upon trying the cereal. I noticed that it DOES taste like Dulce De Leche. Ah. The flavor I love, however, it's not bursting with it. There's a great balance of sweetness to it, giving me the Latin infused flavor I love, and whole grains my children need.

What do you think? Would you eat Dulce De Leche Cereal? Or are you set in your ways of traditional flavors? Oh and in the coming days, be on the lookout for a REALLY cool cereal giveaway. What is up with me and cereal these days? :)

Buy It:

Dulce de Leche Cheerios will be available in the grocery aisle of stores nationwide this January. For more information on this new cereal go to www.cheerios.com or visit Cheerios on their Facebook Page.
