Yesterday, was our first day of school and this year we are walkers. Even though we're just a street over from our Elementary, by the time we arrived back home our faces were red, our throats were dry, and sweat dripped off our brow. Do I REALLY have to say how hot it is out there?

The New School year brings lots of families on the road via car, bus, and walking in school zones. Since we're new to the crosswalk, my first bit of advice is slow down guys! My second bit of advice comes straight from our Car Safety Event we hosted just over a week ago with Chevy and Safe Kids USA.

#HEBack2School Meal Maker Challenge: Stuffed Bell Peppers Recipe

Welcome to our last day in the H-E-B & ConAgra Back-To-School Meal Maker Challenge. With that said, I created a meal perfect for our last day of Summer, yet easy enough to cook on a school night. Our secret ingredient was H-E-B Mixed Vegetables so I thought Wouldn't this work well in a bit-sized edible bowl? We made stuffed bell peppers!

TV Talk: Dinosaur Train Season 2 Debuts With Dinosaur Big City Special

Sunday, August 21, 2011 0 comments

Boy, we are anxious here at my house. Tomorrow school begins for the 2011-2012 year and my oldest two are bitin' at the bit to see who's going to be in their class. I think we tried on about a million outfits, but we're ready.

One thing we're going to have to adjust to is our new routine. I'm a creature of organization. I like being on time. I like having structure and I like a schedule. My youngest son still has one more year left before he can go to school, so him and I are planning on nestling together to watch the kick off of Season 2 of Dinosaur Train, which debuts a four part series called Dinosaur Big City.

Back-To-School 2011: School Supplies for Kids in Need {Elmer's Giveaway}

Saturday, August 20, 2011 69 comments

This is officially the last weekend before most Texas Area students head back to school. Unfortunately, 50% of those families can not afford the supplies they need in their classroom.

Elmer's understands that the need for supplies is vital to a student's success in school. So, this year they are embarking on a new partnership to help children in need get essential school supplies this back-to-school season through the Kids In Need Foundation, a national, non-profit organization dedicated to providing free school supplies to economically disadvantaged school children and under-funded teachers. Momma Findings wants to do our part to spread the word, but we need your help. Not only am I asking your support for this charitable initiative, but I'm also giving YOU guys a chance at winning supplies of your own to use for your student at home or donate to a teacher you feel might need it in her classroom.

30 Days About Me: Day 19 A Talent or Hobby of Mine

Ah. Day 19 of our 30 Days About Me Series. I'm kind of rolling my eyes at this one because really? A talent? I'm not one of those who can sing, or dance, or draw. I'm not a math whiz. I can't sew. I'm not the best cook. I can't fix a flat tire or change the oil. Gardening is not my forte and I've broken my fair share of trimmers and mowers. Did I mention I can't carry a tune to save my life?

So, today is supposed to be about talents I HAVE, not talents I DON'T have. I looked at my husband for an answer and he says, "You're talented at being pretty." Awe. That's sweet, but totally BS.

Back-To-School 2011: Nestle New School Year Resolutions {Giveaway}

Friday, August 19, 2011 471 comments

Wednesday, we let you guys in on our New School Year Resolution, giving more support to our teachers. I think it's really important that parents give the teachers more of their time, resources, and encouragement because if you think about it, they spend more time with our children, during the school year than you do. If my children aren't with me, I'd like them to be with a teacher who can focus on teaching them and nourishing them socially.

Today, I want to talk about another New School Year Resolution that will benefit both you and your child, getting a better start to your family’s morning.

30 Days About Me: Day 18 Wedding Talk

Welcome to Day 18 of our 30 Days About Me Series. I got a little giddy at the topic for today because I absolutely love talking about my husband.... and no not in a whiny way, but in a I-can't-believe-he's-mine-way. We're all about Weddings, the memories, the pictures, the stories. Ah. I love it!

My husband and I celebrating our 10 year anniversary this year, back in March. I'll give you some time to pick up your jaw. I married REALLY young, as in 20-yrs-old young. I looked at these pictures and I gotta be honest... I had to pick up MY jaw because we looked like babies. Heck. We WERE babies.

Summer Treats: Tampico Drinks Now Come in 20oz. Bottles

Thursday, August 18, 2011 0 comments

There's one thing my children LOVE buying at H-E-B. They can't resist the shelf with all the colorful Tampico gallons lined up so nicely. You see, in our H-E-B they are located far away from the juice aisle, but instead near the dairy section. My kids pair Tampico with their favorite Lunchables and they are happy campers. While we love Tampico drinks, we've never found them in individual servings, but now the leading brand of family-size juice drinks announces its availability in 20oz single-serve bottles and invites you to take your favorite drink with you as you bounce around town.

To celebrate its arrival and fans across the U.S., Tampico Beverages launched its first online photo contest entitled Unique Like You where entrants can submit photos of themselves, customize them with fun add-ons and bling and ask their friends to vote for their tricked-out photos.

Movie Talk: How Would You Feel If Someone Else Raised Your Children in Your Home?

The Help Movie debuted over a week ago and I'm still reeling from the effect it has had on me. This movie is, by far, one of the greatest movies this year. It's emotional. It's heartbreaking. It's all over the spectrum when it comes to life in the south back in the 1960's. The discrimination and the realism it brought to audiences is unreal, but it left you with hope that change is always possible.

When I was in LA back in June at the Disney Dreamwork Event, I had the chance to watch the movie in it's entirety and interview Stacey Snider, DreamWorks Co-Chairman & CEO, about the making of the movie and how it came to be. The topic that kept coming up was the role of women, back then, and in today's world, specifically about Motherhood. So, my question to you guys is, How would you feel if someone else raised your children in your own home?

30 Days About Me: Day 17 What Makes Me Insecure? What Am I Proud Of?

30 Days About MeYesterday, I completely skipped Day 16 of 30 Days About Me. I didn't do it on purpose. In fact, I was up earlier. I STARTED the blog post, but couldn't come up with ANYTHING to answer the question, "What's something crazy you've done and who do you do crazy things with?"

I'm totally not a prude. I've done crazy stuff, but it's not blog friendly and to be honest? These are things I'm not real proud of. So, my apologies for skipping yesterday, but I'm back today and we're talking about things that make us insecure and things we're proud of. I can SO do this one!

Back-To-School 2011: My New School Year Resolution

Wednesday, August 17, 2011 4 comments

Back-To-School has always been an exciting time of the year for me. As a teenager, it was so much fun meeting my new teachers and classmates and now, as a Mother, it's tripled because I see how thrilled my children are around this time of year. Last year, we threw a Back-To-School party, thanks to Nestle and RIF {Reading is Fundamental} that raised awareness both online and in my local community regarding the importance of literacy.

This year we're not throwing a party, but instead setting goals for the year and supporting both brands collectively as we discuss resolutions both children and parents can make to ensure a successful school year.

Ragu Mom's the Word on Dinner: What Do You Do When It Gets Tough?

Sometimes, I dream of the day we can all sit down to a nice dinner as a family. There's no screaming. There's no feet on the table. There's no whining. There's no standing on the chairs. I dream of a dinner where I can cook, sit, and enjoy a hot meal........... but we're not there yet.

In fact, just the other night, as we ate dinner, I tiredly look at my husband. He, then, looks at me with a deflated stare and we could both tell, that we're just spent. Dinner shouldn't be like that. He then proceeds to say, "How did we get here? Look at our life." Then we just hold hands and observe the villagers as they pillage through what was a nice dinner. It can get tough, especially at dinner time. My question for you all today is What do you do when dinner gets tough?

30 Days About Me: Day 15 My Dream Home

30 Days About MeIt sounds so silly, but when I agreed to participate in this 30 Days About Me series with Toni, I never thought I'd get so emotional over simple questions like, My Favorite Movie or My Favorite Song. Heck, the day I wrote about someone or something that has made an impact on me, I was a big ball of emotions.

Today, we're asked to describe or show a picture of our dream home. When I was young, I had a clear cut mental picture... a dollhouse-like home, with an intricate frame and a huge porch where I can swing back and forth on the porch swing with a tall glass of tea and watch my sweet children laugh as they run in the front yard, but after living in a variety of different houses over the years, I've learned that my dream house has nothing to do with big porches or gleaming kitchens. It's what you don't see that make my dreams come true.

30 Days About Me: Day 14 Somewhere I'd Like to Travel

Bienvenido al Día 14 de los 30 días Acerca de mí. Hoy en día, estamos hablando de donde nos gustaría viajar un día.

Okay, my Spanish is a little rusty, but it's all good, right? To be honest, I haven't traveled a lot in my life. Only RECENTLY did I start hopping on planes and running off to the West Coast for the week and returning back to my small Texas town life. I've learned, however, that I LOVE to travel, not necessarily by myself, but I'll take it where I can get it. I've traveled to many places including, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, and of course all through Texas, but I haven't left the country {and shopping in Nuevo Laredo doesn't count}. Where would I like to travel one day? I have it ALL planned out.

#HEBack2School Meal Maker Challenge: Omelets De Nopalitos Recipe

It's the third week of our #HEBack2School Meal Maker Challenge. We've brought you two tasty dishes, thus far, that included Peanut Butter for breakfast and Hebrew Beef Franks for dinner. This week, the secret ingredient is ConAgra Foods Egg Beaters. I'll be honest and it might shock you, but I don't have a lot of experience using Egg Beater. Call me old fashioned, but I always use real eggs. I think that's why I'm happy to participate in the Meal Maker Challenge this year. It encourages me to branch out of the "norm" and try new recipes and ingredients. So, today? I'm encouraging YOU to do the same.

What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of cooking with Egg Beaters? Well, of course omelets! Check out our Mexican twist on this classic twist with our Omelets De Nopalitos recipe. In case you didn't know, Nopalitos {or nopales} are cactus used as vegetables and native to Mexico.

Faith for Kids: VeggieTales Princess and the Pop Star

Sunday, August 14, 2011 0 comments

Welcome to another Faith for Kids find here at Momma Findings. I, am constantly, finding new DVDs, books, or tools to help my children grow spiritually. Although young, I know that God is molding their little hearts with each day and I can only hope that I can aid in that process as best as God allows me to.

Wit that said, I came across the CUTEST VeggieTales DVD the other day and I, instantly, knew that my daughter would love it. She's a little older now, but enjoys sitting with her younger brother when he watches VeggieTales. If you're Veg Heads like us, you'll love Big Idea Entertainment's newest DVD VeggieTales Princess and the Popstar. It's a story all about trading places. Been there?

30 Days About Me: Day 13 Someone or Something That Has Impacted My Life

30 Days About MeDo you ever feel just breathless - like you've gone and gone and gone and no matter how much rest you get or how much encouragement you receive, you still feel tired? I feel like that today, but not because anything horrible is happening in my life, but because I feel so unworthy of all the blessings God has given me. I mean...... He has been REALLY good to me and every time I feel like I'm about to fall, or stumble, or quit? He triples those blessings.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL about feeling His love because it is AMAZING, but I keep thinking to myself How can I glorify Him with all I'm given? How can I let others see His light in me, especially when I'm in the spotlight, like say the local news? Welcome to Day 13 of 30 Days About Me. Our prompt? Someone or Something that has made an impact on my life.

30 Days About Me: Day 12 Something I'm OCD About

Saturday, August 13, 2011 2 comments

I had a REALLY good laugh at this one because all my good friends know I'm OCD about a LOT of things. Today's 30 Days About Me prompt wants me to let you guys in on something I'm OCD about, something I'm particular about, something that I'm abnormally compulsive about. Do you KNOW me at all?

Well, I can go on and on about a few things, like how I load the dishwasher or organize the pantry, but no. My obsessive compulsiveness stems from the need to be on time. I have an obsession with time and/or numbers. Is that weird?

Steven Curtis Chapman's Re:Creation Album Hits Home

Friday, August 12, 2011 0 comments

This week, Steven Curtis Chapman launched his newest album called re:creation. The new album features five new songs from the five-time GRAMMY ® Award winner and all new re-imagined recordings of his eight biggest hits. The title speaks to the actual recreation of these songs, which are entirely new re-recordings in a new musical space. More and most importantly though, the word recreation speaks to the new life God is now recreating for Chapman and his family as they walk forward in their lives after the tragic death of their daughter.

While I haven't, personally, experienced such hurt before, I have had my own kind of re:creation in my marriage and within my little family. I think that's why this album hits home for me.

30 Days About Me: Day 11 My Favorite Band/Artist

I'm not EVEN understanding how I could pick just one favorite band or artist for today's prompt. Seriously?

If you know me, you know I listen to an array of music. Yes, it's probably the most eclectic mix you'll ever hear from a person, but I've been lucky enough to live in so many different places and meet so many amazing people that the love of each genre stems from those wonderful memories. I'm a Texas girl, so it's not surprising that my favorite artist is everyone's favorite cowboy.

30 Days About Me: Day 9 Something That Makes My Life Easier

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 3 comments

Today has been a whirlwind of craziness that I haven't had time to blog. Shocking. I know. This time each day I have at LEAST 2 posts up and look at me dragging my feet on day 9 of the 30 Days About Me Series. Shame on me!

Today, we're asked to name something that makes our life easier. Today? Its the wrong day to ask me that because I'm ALL kinds of stressed with everything going on. My Dyson vacuum decided to quit on me. Target decided to charge me TWICE for the $250 I just spent on my kids Back-To-School clothes, bringing my total to over $500 bucks, and my husband's truck is on the brink of becoming scrap metal if it keeps breaking down. So, in all that chaos, what makes my life easier?

Music Talk: Steven Curtis Chapman's Re:Creation Debuts Today

Tuesday, August 9, 2011 0 comments

This month, I've skipped my Music Monday posts because of a few other "Monday Campaigns" I've been working on like the the Back-to-School Meal Maker Challenge and 30 Days About Me. Come September, however, I'm ALL about diving back into showcasing my favorite songs  and why I love them each Monday.

One in particular, that really hit home, is Do Everything by Steven Curtis Chapman. His new album re:creation debuts today and mixes this song with other inspirational tunes both new and old. It's all about the little things we do, in the mundane of the day, to glorify Him. I remember thinking to myself a few years ago What am I doing? I change diapers all day. I clean house all day. I cook. I clean. When will this ever matter to anyone? Then a good friend told me, "You don't do this for you. You don't do it for those kids. You do it because this is where God has placed you. He thinks it matters. He thinks YOU matter."

30 Days About Me: Day 8 Something I hate

30 Days About MeNow that's a strong word. Isn't it? When my child tells me, "I can't eat those carrots Mom. I hate them!" ... let's just say I cringe at hearing such horrible words out of such sweet mouths.

With that said, I, often times, say that word. I hate when I hit traffic. I hate when I get bad service at restaurants. I hate when I run late. I hate when OTHER people make me run late (seriously, I will throw you out the window of a moving car if you ever make me late. Don't do it). I hate when it's bright and sunny outside and it's RAINING. Seriously. I think it's disgusting.... WAY disgusting, but there's two things I hate more than anything.....

Would You Ever Get Plastic Surgery After Having Kids?

I have been struggling with my "looks" lately. I mean, I understand that beauty comes from within and it's more than we see on the outside. I understand that, but I'm really struggling with low self esteem after having kids. Yes. I could go running more. Yes, I could change my eating habits, but the reality I face is that I've had three kids, very close together in age. My body is NEVER going to be what it was before I had babies.

I joke with my husband sometimes and say, "If we had the money, would you let me get plastic surgery?" It seems like a drastic measure I know, but I, seriously, think I would... just a tummy tuck. I'm a sucker for a good pair of jeans and this post-baby tummy doesn't let me do that. As I pondered the question I asked my husband I thought to myself Where would I even start?. Well, today I have a guest contributor from AboutPlasticSurgery.com here to help if you're wondering the same thing.

#HEBack2School Meal Maker Challenge: Frank's Mexican Cornbread

Welcome to the second week of the H-E-B/ConAgra Back-to-School Meal Maker Challenge. Last week, we brought you an easy Back-to-School breakfast recipe featuring Peter Pan Peanut Butter. Tell me those peanut butter flautas didn't look just as yummy as can be?! This week, however, we're all about making dinner with our featured "secret ingredient" which, just so happens to be, Hebrew National Franks.

I stewed over the idea of making different kinds of hotdogs. In fact, I had an AWESOME idea for a Cobb Hotdog or a Breakfast hotdog, but when it came down to it, I felt compelled to put a new twist on the Mexican Cornbread I grew up on. Since, it would be made with beef franks, I thought it perfect to name it Frank's Mexican Cornbread. {Seriously. Who doesn't have an Uncle Frank in the family anyway?}

30 Days About Me: Day 6 What's My Most Treasured Item?

Sunday, August 7, 2011 5 comments

It's quiet here. My three kids sleep peacefully after a very long day of swimming and and hanging out with their cousins. It's hot here. Like, not Houston Humidity Hot (because you KNOW that's the worst kind), but dry-in-your-face-hot. Yesterday, it seems as if I couldn't get enough water, yet I drank about a million bottles.

I complain about the heat, but I'm having a really great time here at the LPH Homestead. This is my In-Laws's place out in the country "Little Piece of Heaven" and as I sit here watching the sun come up (and the deer run through the backyard - don't be jealous) while everyone in the house sleeps, I think to myself I love my husband and feel so blessed he has given me such blessings. Today, 30 Days About Me asks, "What's your most treasured item you own?"

Contest Alert: Win a Trip to LA to See Taylor Swift

The other night I told my husband, "I'd REALLY like to go back to LA." I've been there twice the last few months and have made great friends in the area. I figure one day I'll get him excited about jumping on a plane and heading out to the West Coast, maybe hit up a concert, enjoy the great places to eat, and introduce him to the friends I've made on my last two trips.

Then, out of the blue, my 7-yr-old says, "Mom! Maybe we can go see a movie star, like the Jonas Brothers or Taylor Swift!" Fat chance my sweet girl, but you can try to win a trip if you'd like. Smurfs Hit the Big Screen and the Bubble Bath

Friday, August 5, 2011 0 comments

The much anticipated movie, The Smurfs, is now in theaters for families to see. We haven't watched it yet, but it's really cool to see my children fall in love with favorites from my childhood. Every time we head to my parents house, there's a billboard, we pass with all the Smurfs on it and my 4-yr-old gets so excited, "Mom! The Smurfs! There they are!!!"

With all the Smurf movie fun comes new bath-time products every kid can get Smurfy about! The Smurfs movie hit theaters nationwide on July 29th, and to help celebrate, Suave Kids® is introducing specially designed bottles of your kids’ favorite Shampoos, Detanglers and Body Washes – all featuring the Smurfs! 30 Days About Me: Day 4 The Book That Changed Me

Now, you've already learned that I don't do too much TV watching. Heck. I was just telling my husband yesterday that I'm struggling with turning my brain off to relax. I'm constantly "doing something", constantly "working", constantly "busy" and I don't know what it is about my brain to where it won't tell me, "Sara, you're enough. THIS is enough. You can stop now. You can doing something you enjoy. You have my permission."

I miss that part of me. Anyhow, today is Day 4 of 30 Days About Me and we're asked to talk about our favorite book. Well, I don't get to read as much as I'd like, but my RECENT favorite book is The Help, by Kathryn Stockett. Say what you will about jumping on the bandwagon with everyone else who's created a book club to read it. It's a darn good book and, after learning more about The Help Movie at the Disney Dreamworks Event, I had to dive into it once again.

Health Tip: Band-Aid and Neosporin are Better Together {Giveway}

Thursday, August 4, 2011 212 comments

I've been a Mom for over nine years now. With three young children I've seen cuts, scrapes, bruises, and even experienced a few trips to the Emergency Room to stitch 'em up. I don't know about you, but I'd rather stick to the small scrapes and bandage them up at home with a cute Princess and the Frog Band-Aid, than ever having to sit with my baby as he or she gets stitched up again.

Families like mine rely on first aid kits that usually include Band-Aids, but do you realize that using Neosporin Ointment together with Band-Aid Brand Adhesive Bandages is key to helping the healing process? Both brands are spreading the message to "squeeze, then stick" to families everywhere to help you build a fun ritual that will ensure that cuts and scrapes don't get in the way of having family fun.

30 Days About Me: Day 3 My Favorite TV Show

You guys are going to REALLY hate me. I'm, seriously, not against TV, but I just don't watch it a lot. So much so, that we, completely, shut off our cable about 8 months ago and solely rely on Netflix, Redbox, Hulu, and Roku. We just don't watch TV a lot in the house. While I enjoy myself some good CNN, it just wasn't worth the cost to us, as a family of five on a budget.

With that said, there is a show, I'm just LOVIN'. I discovered it, for the first time, by a blogging friend by the name of Jennifer from Mami2Mommy. She and I roomed together at a Social Media Conference in LA back in April and she was watching it on her down time. The Army Wives addiction began and it didn't end for me until the last episode of Season 4 that I happily made my husband watch with me on Netflix.

Cart Buster Savings Event is Back at Kroger {Giveaway}

The other day we went to a new grocery store. I know. I know. I bet that sentence made all of you gasp, but we strayed away from our normal grocery store because we just needed a few things and, truth be told, ever since we moved into our new home, the gas has been eating away at our budget every time we need to drive to H-E-B. So, when we need a few things off to Kroger we go.

While, my loyalty lies with my first grocery store love, I have been shopping a bit at Kroger due to their Cart Buster Savings Event AND their cute little kid sized shopping carts. Have you seen those? My 4-yr-old thinks he is just the COOLEST as he helps Momma shop. Reminds me of my Harris Teeter Days when we lived in Charlotte.

30 Days About Me: Day 2 The Movie That Never Gets Old

You know? I'm kinda liking this 30 days about me. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love writing about products, events, and parenting, but it makes me happy to write about... welll.... me.

Today is Day 2 in the blog series all about me. Toni, from A Daily Dose of Toni, was kind enough to create a list of prompts each day for us to follow and I'm SO grateful for that because if someone told me, "Sara, you're gonna write about you for 30 days." I'd have NO idea what to say. Today is kinda of simple What's your favorite movie Sara?
