#WhirlpoolMoms: Making It Work When Your Garage is Your Laundry Room

Monday, November 28, 2011 Leave a Comment

I've lived in close to 10 homes since getting married. We've moved a LOT. The two rooms in the house that are my absolute favorite (because I spend the most time in there) are the kitchen and laundry room. If I'm going to be in there half the day, I want it to look nice and welcome me each time I walk in.

The laundry rooms I've encountered have been all shapes and sizes including small closets, mud rooms (yes, this one had an actual toilet right next to the washer, yuck), some have been in the kitchen, and others? Well, they just sit in the garage. That's where my laundry room is now and I hated it the first few months I lived here, until my Whirlpool Laundry Room Make-Over. I've learned to love my "laundry room" and made it work for me. Do you have your washer and dryer in your garage?

I've been telling you guys just how excited I was about this make-over. Not only would I be receiving a brand new Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer Set, but I'd finally get the chance to transform my garage, AKA The Laundry Room, into I place I actually liked going into and spending time in. Check it out:

What a difference a new Whirlpool Duet Set can make on my laundry routine. Throw in a fresh coat of paint, a table to fold clothes, a few baskets and it feels like a WHOLE new room in my house.

Simple Tricks for Families on a Budget:

I've always been enamored by those beautiful laundry rooms you see in the magazines, but I'm a realistic girl. We're a family of five on a very strict budget, and while it would be nice to have a fancy laundry room, I'd rather spend the money on improving my sanctuary (my bedroom) or my living room.

I needed my laundry room to look nice, keep it's functionality, all while keeping my budget in check. With the help of Whirlpool through Mom Central, we received the Duet Washer and Dryer and the rest? Well, it was all my husband who used things we had around the house, such as:

Whirlpool Settings for Garage Dwellers:

I'm not sure if a lot people think about this, but if your washer and dryer are in the garage, your clothes will start to smell or mildew if you don't put them in the dryer right away. With hot Summers in Texas? Yeah.. it can get crazy, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Whirlpool Duet special settings have been a lifesaver for me.

There is a Fan Fresh option that keeps air flowing to your laundry load in the washer and periodically tumbles it to keep the clothes fresh until you can get it to the dryer.

With all the cool features and my brand new laundry room makeover, I actually WANT to do laundry more often than I did before. Amazing how small changes can really make a difference. What about you? If you could change ANYTHING about your laundry room, what would it be?

SO smart to put a table right there! I wish I had room for that in my laundry. Looks nice!

Ok, love this new room! I would do laundry all day long and be really excited about it. Love the table idea. Where else would you rest your clothes, fold them, etc...
    Nice!!

Beautiful-especially for a garage!! But I'd be happy with your old washer/dryer-it's a lot newer than my 25+ year old set.!!

Loving the new laundry room! I would love a bigger space but my laundry room is more of a laundry closet. It needs a lot of TLC! I am salivating over your new machines :-)

Thanks so much for the sweet comments guys! And let me just say the folding table? I don't know how I went THIS long without one. It's been so great to fold clothes or even just keep them there until I'm ready to put them away.

I just discovered your blog. Loved reading this about the new Whirlpool set. Wish I could afford it. Looks wonderful! Love your new 'laundry room' too. My laundry room is a closet, of sorts, as you walk out to the garage. Hate it! There's no room to spread anything out. Also, when they vented, it's vented to the garage instead of outside so I have to keep the garage door open when I do laundry. Very cold or rainy days do not make fun laundry days!! Not sure how to figure my 'problem area' out, but you gave me some good ideas. Have to get my brain working! ;-)
