Happy Thanksgiving: Here's 5 UnobviousThings I'm Thankful For

Thursday, November 24, 2011 Leave a Comment

Today is Thanksgiving and I am so very blessed to be covered in love and yummy food. This year we traveled a little bit in order to be with family, whereas, the years past, I cooked the entire meal all by my lonesome for just my husband and children.

This year, I can list all the obvious things I'm thankful for, like the love of a wonderful man, the amazing family I have, the beautiful children I'm raising, and the Church home our Spirit dwell in, but it's kind of implicated that I'm PURDY thankful for all of the above. No. THIS year, I'm bringing you five quirky things I'm thankful for.

1. Hot coffee to start my day: I seriously can NOT start my day unless I have a cup of coffee. If you force me to, than I will force you into a head lock. I can't function without a warm cuppa joe. I'm thankful for my Keurig. She's good to me.

2. Small Feet: I know, it sounds silly, but I like my feet are small. I can fit into my son's shoes if I want to (not that I'd WANT to) and it makes for easier packing when I go on trips. I'm thankful that smaller feet, leave more closet room for shoes.

3. My biracial family: Yes. I am Hispanic. My husband is white. Together we make some BEAUTIFUL babies, but moreover? During Holidays, like Thanksgiving, I'm introduced to new foods he grew up with and he, in turn, celebrates with Tamales and Mexican inspired dishes.

4. Being a Texas Girl: I've moved around the country quite a bit. I, sometimes, say I left my heart in Memphis, but that's not true. I left sweet memories and growth in Memphis and walked home to Texas with a renewed spirit and maturity. I love my southern nature, Texas twang, and down home mentality.

5. Opportunity: Back in 2007, when I first opened a blog, I was simply out to connect with SOMEONE (seriously I yearned for one person in this entire universe) who understood what I was going through as a young mother. Over four years later, I've gained more than just a blog, more than just awesome readers, and more than a personal brand. I've gained opportunity to grow as a freelance writer, as a blog owner and editor, and a social media consultant. In the last year, I've been on once-in-a-lifetime trips, met celebrities, and witnessed a social media movement among Moms online that has instilled a pride in the fact that I'm still here... I'm still me... and I'm still thankful for this online opportunity.

What are you thankful for?
