I still remember the words that came out of my husband's mouth that day as we walked around the Barnes & Noble Bookstore, "Honey, I'll buy you whatever book you find, except there's one rule.. Stay away from the self help books."
I had a tendency to go towards "study" books that can improve myself (you know I've been vying for that #1 Wife Title for years now) or I'd lean towards inspirational Christian books that tell the real raw story of someone's past and how God turned it all around for them. I mean, I love hearing Beth Moore
tell her testimony and it encourages me, as I walk through life with trial and tribulations, that He never leaves my side, no matter what. So, when Litfuse asked if I wanted to review a new book, by Patricia Maura about hope, faith, and determination, well you KNOW I was all over it!
About Safe From the Past
I started reading Safe from the Past, about a month ago, through a blog tour conducted by Litfuse and finished it rather quickly. That's one thing I liked about it from the get go. I don't have a lot of time to read, as a busy Mom of three, but I SURE love doing it. Safe from the Past is 138 pages long and it's an easy read.
It starts off as Patricia tells the back story of her life and then proceeds into the College years giving us glimpses of her childhood throughout. As she flashbacks to all that she went through, we could see that her Faith was growing stronger and stronger as she realized, no matter what your past, no matter what the circumstance, you can do anything through Christ. She proves it through her Testimony.
While, I found the writing to be a little too simple and much of the sentences to be repetitive, it was an inspirational story that you can't help, but feel good about once you put it down.

About the Author
Patricia worked in New York City's financial district for thirteen years in the field of securities operations. At that time, she went on to obtain an MBA from New York University. She and her husband moved to Dallas, TX in 2001 where they are raising their two children.
During her time in NY, Patricia wrote an article entitled "A Tribute To My Mother" which was published in "The Recovery Journal" in 1999. Her book is a continuation of that tribute and serves to spread the message to those in similar situations that good news is on its way to children considering a higher education but who are afraid to dream.
