Outdoor Fun: Go On a Bug Hunt With Coghlan's

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 Leave a Comment

Today is the first day of March. HELLO SPRING! Just last week, the little guy and I were barefoot outside, playing with our playground ball, blowing bubbles, painting pictures, and eating ice-cream. It's just one of those little perks that ya' get when you live on the coast of Texas. The warm weather is here and I can't wait to jump right into our Spring Break.

One of our favorite things to do in this beautiful weather is go on a Backyard Bug Hunt. My 4-yr-old is all boy ALL the time and there's nothing quite like hunting for bugs, digging for worms, and examining them through glass jars. Just recently, we discovered a few tools to help us do that, Coghlan's Bug-Eye Headlight and 7-Function Binoculars for Kids.

About Coghlan's Kids:

When you’re a kid—every insect, plant, and piece of nature is fascinating. The new Kid’s Bugeye Headlight from Coghlan’s (www.coghlans.com) encourages the budding scientist in children. The Bug-Eye Headlight is compact, lightweight and powered by a bright white LED that never needs replacing. The light also features a comfortable elastic head strap in a fun purple and yellow color combination. The 7-Function Binoculars helps children see nature in a new way. Each separate function - the binoculars, monocular, magnifying glass, linen counter, compass, stereoscope and signal mirror - offer a new way to look and learn.

Momma Findings:

Thanks go Coghlan's we had the opportunity to try out two of their Kids Products, including the 7-Function Binoculars and the Buy-Eye Headlight. My son was BEYOND excited to get a hold on these.

We've had a few headlights in the past, due to my husband's job using them, however, the kids headlight we received from Coghlan's was a bit different because it was adjustable, yet comfortable for my son's head. It was also VERY easy to use, simply pushing the button. What we enjoyed the most, however, was the brightness of the LED light. Most headlights we've used were just a dim light, but this was bright enough to use outside or even in bed, while reading. Oh, and the light bulb NEVER needs replacing. Batteries? Probably, especially if your kids use their headlight as much as mine do.

Comes with head band, two fresh batteries, and detachable headlight

By far, one of our favorite Coghlan's products is the 7-Function Binoculars. There are so many things you can do with them including:

  • Binoculars
  • Compass
  • Monocular
  • Signal Mirror
  • Magnifying Glass
  • Stereoscope
  • Linen Counter

With all these different functions, these kids binoculars give your family tons of ways to look, learn, and discover.

Momma Improvements:

Suggestion for Parents: My 4-yr-old is a very rough and tumble kind of kid. These binoculars are very lightweight and pieced together perfectly. To me, it could be very easily broken when left in the hands of younger children unsupervised (speaking from experience with my tough little guy). I advise the use of older children 8 and up or being there to help little ones use the different functions.

Final Findings:

Through our use of Coglhan's Kids products, we've found that both the binoculars and headlight are perfect ways to spend time with the kids outdoors, discovering nature, finding new bugs, and enjoying time together.

Buy It:

Coghlan's for Kids can be found at your local Academy Sports + Outdoors. The binoculars retail for 7.08, while the Bug-Eye light can be found for $8.98.
