A few weeks ago, I asked you guys what crazy things you've done for love. This was all in part to the celebration of the debut of Gnomeo and Juliet.

So, today, I ask. What kind of crazy things have you done to get to a movie on time? We were invited to a press screening of Gnomeo and Juliet and I was so stoked to get there with the kids, have some good laughs, and bring you guys our thoughts, but Houston weather is unpredictable. The freeways were a bit icy the night before. My children were cold. My husband was sleepy and apparently, I'm directionally challenged. We got there 20 minutes late, but enjoyed what little we got to see. What did we think?


Before I dive into what my sweet little children thought, let me give you a run down.

About Gnomeo and Juliet:

The greatest love story ever told, starring...garden gnomes? In the upcoming “Gnomeo & Juliet,” Shakespeare's revered tale gets a comical, off-the-wall makeover. Directed by Kelly Asbury (“Shrek 2”) and showcasing both classic and original songs by Elton John, the film features the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as Gnomeo and Juliet, who have as many obstacles to overcome as their quasi namesakes when they are caught up in a feud between neighbors. But with plastic pink flamingos and thrilling lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find lasting happiness?

Momma Findings:


As I said before, we were set for an advanced screening and made it to the theater a little late, missing the beginning. In my defense, we live about 45 minutes away, so time was against me from the start. Throughout the movie, I leaned over to see what my children thought and they were giggling and smiling.

Gnomeo and Juliet, in my personal opinion, was an excellent portrayal of Romeo and Juliet made for this generation, however, my children were a bit bothered by a few of the scenes. Moreover the scene where Tybalt (I think that's his name) gets in a fight with Gnomeo and loses more than he bargained for.

In my eyes, as a Mother, there was a lot of fighting in it and it broke my heart to see the "Divorce Scene" of the Flamingos owners. There is so much heartbreak in this world already and to have it on a big screen for families to watch, was a bit disappointing.

That being said, there were some pretty funny parts. My children could not stop laughing at the Flamingo and his metal leg and they loved the Gnome in the "bathing suit".

Final Findings:


Overall, Gnomeo and Juliet provided great entertainment with it's impressive cast of characters, but the parents be aware that it IS a portrayal of Romeo and Juliet. There are lots of fighting between the Blues and Red (the families) and your kids might have questions. Mine did. I don't want to spoil the ending, but I will say this.... I think the ending taught a good lesson to those little ones who watched.
