February Beauty Pick: Revlon Custom Eyes {Giveaway}

Sunday, February 20, 2011 Leave a Comment

Welcome to another month of beauty picks here at Momma Findings. Just as a refresher, last month we brought you L'Oreal's Youth Code line of facial care products, made especially for women like me. It was all about how to keep our skin looking refreshed, beautiful, and healthy. This month, however, we're bringing you a product that is customized for your eyes.

The Beauty Pick of the Month for the month of February is Revlon's line of Custom Eyes, including both the Eye Shadow and Mascara. I, for one, had such a great time experimenting with my "look" and customizing my eyes just the way I like them. Dramatic. So, this week, I've got my take on the Custom Eyes and My Kind of Beautiful - My way of looking deep inside myself to feel comfortable in my own skin and, personally, learning to love the way I look both inside and out.

About Revlon Custom Eyes Mascara & Eye Shadow:

New Revlon CustomEyes™ Mascara is the first Revlon mascara that offers two gorgeous lash looks with one genius brush. The innovative brush has adjustable bristles to amp up length & drama or for all-out length & definition. The Revlon CustomEyes™ can help you easily create and customize the eye look you want with 4 shadows and 1 liner. For dramatic eye popping looks like never before.

Momma Findings:

Part of being an H-E-B Beauty Blogger, I get to check out some of the hottest beauty finds hitting store shelves. This month, H-E-B wanted me to check out Revlon's Custom Eyes line of products including the Eye Shadow and Mascara. Check it out:

Now, I've had to gradually grow into Eye Make-Up. It's never been my "forte" in the make-up process. I've always liked the way dramatic eye shadow, liner, and mascara look on a person, but I just couldn't figure out how to do it correctly on my own face. It's insane, because I grew up with an older sister who eats and breathes make-up.

So, I gave it a try, using the back of the shadow's instructions (in the collage above you can see them numbered). They actually made it REALLY easy for me. The colors glided on smoothly and evenly, however, I liked using my own brushes. The sponge like brush that's included didn't do as well as I'd like.

I'm equally impressed with the mascara, due to the two settings.

  • Setting 1: Aligns bristles for long and dramatic lashes
  • Setting 2:Staggers the bristles for length and definition
  • *Ophthalmologist Tested

The End Result:

I've gone out on a limb here in TRULY bringing you into my vulnerability. I mean, where else are you going to see exactly how I look when I first wake up in the morning? I mean, only my husband gets that view!

So, how did I do?

My Kind of Beautiful:

Just as I did last month, I've got a My Kind of Beautiful that I'm learning to live with. What's my issue this month?

After using the Revlon Custom Eyes Mascara, I'm slowly learning to love my eyelashes again, but it's that love/hate relationship. Some are long. Some are stubby. Some are down right missing and some stick out every which way. I just never know what I'm going to get with these darn eyelashes.

Looking at the picture above do you see what I'm talking about? It kind of reminds me of my inner self. My long abundant lashes represent my strength. The stubby eyelashes represent my potential - slowly growing, but not too fast for fear of failure, then the really really REALLY short lases are my fears. My fear of showing the world just exactly who I am.

Although I see myself jagged and unpredictable, I see there is a unique set of eyes looking out onto a life full of possibility.

It's My Kind of Beautiful

I always apply foundation first, not just my face but over my eye lids as well, then I start with eye liner, I use the retractable pencils ( I prefer black or kohl colors) & I do the lower eye lid, then start with the base color of eye shadow, I usually use pale lite pink, or cream color, applied under the brow and into the crease, then I use the darker color of the shade I will be wearing, usually a turquiose blue apply that with a good angled brush to the crease area and kinda smudge it along to the outer eye area across corner of the lid, I then use a lighter shade of the same color or I choose a different color (I like purples, blues, pinks) and I brush that color across my lid and smooth all the colors out with the brush, I always curl my lashes first I use black mascara (Maybelline-pink with green top) been using the same mascara for over 35 yrs, and finish my makeup off with blush, & finishing powder, then some lip gloss,
I dont know if I do it the right way or not but its been my same routine for many many years, I love make up and never go out without it

    thanks for the great giveaway
BTW your eyes look amazing, you did a beautiful job applying the make up, really looks great

My advice is to ignore the "rules" first of all. I have blue eyes and all the books and magazines say that I should never use blue eyeshadow or eyeliner because it will "compete with my eyecolor". But I do it anyway, and I get tons of compliments. Go with your gut instinct.

I use foundation on my eyelids also. It helps the eyeshadow stay in place and not collect in the crease of your eyelids. I also use liquid eyeliner. People get scared with liquid eyeliner but there are liquids that you can use that are felt tip pens and this is easier to control. Most people start with the lighter color first. I start with the darker color first because I feel like it is easier to blend this way. Also...I dont use the sponges either. I used the brushes...I think it is easier. I never use the mascara until I am finished with the whole face and that is the last thing I apply. I think that mascara wakes up the eye so much and it should be the icing on the cake! :)

I love dipping my favorite Eco Tools eyeliner brush into a little bit of contact soluion and then dipping it into the eyeshadow color of my choice.. This combo can be one of two ways. You can a) use it as a colored eyeliner or b) make it into a eyeshadow. It is guaranteed to glide on beautifully and also give it a satin/ dewy

Always do your eye make up first before anything else because you'll get a lot of dust on your face. You can make sure you're all clean and smudge free before applying foundation, powder, etc.

If you are going to apply eye makeup, make sure to use a facial powder before you do so it doesn't smear...also, don't be afraid to try colors, they are beautiful!

Invest in a good eyeshadow brush. It makes applying eyeshadow much easier. garrettsambo@aol.com

Use a good moisturizer around your eyes every night, it will help tremendously as you get older and the fine lines want to come in (trust me, it comes fast). And it helps your makeup go on more smoothly, to be sure!
