We had just moved to a new city, yet again. I didn't know anyone. I didn't know my way around town and it became my downfall during one of the scariest nights in my life. My, then 6-yr-old, came to me in the middle of the night complaining of a headache. I gave him some Tylenol then sent him back to bed. He came to me again, this time it was a painful cry stating, "Mom. It won't go away and it hurts really, really bad."

It was after 3 hours of him crying, that I looked at my husband, in tears, and said, "I have to take him to the ER. I have to." My husband stayed with the other two children as I drove around aimlessly looking for my nearest Emergency Room. It's 3:00am. I'm lost. I'm crying. I didn't have a cell phone. My son needs help. It was in that moment, that I could have used iTriage. It was in THAT moment iTriage could have saved us an agonizing night of fear and sense of helplessness.


About iTriage App:

I downloaded the iTriage app, which is free by the way, and feel like I've taken my healthcare to a different level completely. I feel like Emergency situations, such as the one we went through in Charlotte, would be a thing of the past. So, I wasn't surprised to learn that this health app is the brainchild of two emergency room physicians. After seeing a growing need for patients to have more actionable healthcare information in their hands, Drs. Peter Hudson and Wayne Guerra introduced iTriage to give healthcare consumers crucial information in acute care settings:

• Information on more than 300 symptoms, 1000 diseases and 350 medical procedure
• A nationwide directory of hospitals, urgent cares, retail clinics, pharmacies and physicians
• Turn-by-turn facility directions from GPS, IP address or zip code locations
• Nurse advice lines
• Detailed quality reports from HealthGrades on hospitals and physicians
• Help negotiating medical bills through an iTriage partnership with one of the most respected claims adjudication organizations
• Emergency Room Wait Times for hospitals in select parts of the country

After driving around Charlotte looking for a hospital, I gave up. My son had fallen asleep in the back seat. I was going on no sleep and my mind was exhausted with fear, as I finally found my way back home. The next morning, I took, both him and my daughter to my nearest pediatrician.

They both had pneumonia.

His headache was due to his inability to breathe adequately.

Final Findings:

In the end, my night could have been better should I have found a hospital. If iTriage was around I could have used it to find the nearest ER and receive clear directions straight to it. As a mother to 3 young children, I feel iTriage is innovative and life saving, giving me symptoms, facilities, and health information during crucial times.
