Ways to Give Back: Momma Findings Partners with Random Acts of Zhu for Charitable Donations

Tuesday, December 28, 2010 0 comments

This Holiday Season grew to a very busy one here at Momma Findings, not only because of the reviews and giveaways we planned, but because I vowed to give more to my family than I have in years passed. The only way to do this was with my time. So, while I wasn't here blogging as usual, I was, instead traveling to see family in Oklahoma, baking with my girl, seeking ways to give back to those in need, all while teaching my children the reason for the season.

That being said, one particular event in the Momma Findings household came in the form of 100 tiny toys. You may know them as Zhu Zhu Pets. I was very blessed to be chosen as 1 of 100 bloggers to participate in the Random Acts of Zhu charitable campaign for 2010. Sounds so prestigious, huh? Well, to me, it was. We were able to bless a charity of our choice with these Zhu Zhu Pets and my children got their first dose of how it feels to bless others in need.

Behind the Blog Scene: 5 Reasons I've Been Lost in the Holiday Shuffle

Friday, December 24, 2010 2 comments

I got a voice mail yesterday morning from my sweet sweet friend, asking me if I was alright. A few minutes later I received a text from her. I was unable to respond until after 10:00pm, when I was able to sit down and finally relax. The last few weeks have been hectic.

If you're a PR rep. Yes. I will return your email soon. Yes, you will see your product reviewed, however, this time of year I give all my energy and time to my husband and my children. I know you understand.

If you're a reader. Yes. I will pull winners for the giveaways that have ended. Yes, you'll see LOTS of great stuff in the coming year and, more than anything, I'm so grateful you stick around here at Momma Findings. So, what have I been up to?

Movie Talk: Little Fockers Hits Theaters December 22nd {Prize Pack Giveaway}

Tuesday, December 21, 2010 121 comments

Christmas is fast approaching and I'm going crazy just thinking of all I STILL need to do. I know. I know. I'm WAY behind. This year, I don't have a lot of shopping left, but I've been very blessed to be able to cook the Christmas meal for my side of the family. I think I have everything, but knowing me I'll be wandering the aisles of H-E-B tomorrow morning thinking of all the things I'd love to add to our meal.

It warms my heart to have my family close by to do these kinds of things, but I, often, think of how the Holidays would be if our family was like the Fockers Family. Can you imagine? I can baste in knowing there will be no drama at the dinner table and, instead, I can round up everyone, willing, and hit the theaters to catch the latest in Focker Fun in the debut of Little Fockers.

2010 Holiday Gift Guide: Game Party in Motion for XBOX 360 {Giveaway}

Thursday, December 16, 2010 234 comments

This year, I considered showering my sweet little family of five with a little XBOX 360 love. From what I understand, Kinect is downright wicked (in a cool sense) and I'm anxious to hear what all the buzz is about. I, then, think about how "game involved" we are and I ask myself, "Do we REALLY need another game system?" We have a Nintendo DSi, Nintendo Wii, V-Tech MobiGo, iTouch. I just don't think we're ready for the XBOX, until the kids are older.

Then I see motion games for Kinect and I think Man. That looks cool. Kinect Games, for the XBOX 360, are lining store shelves this Christmas and quickly inching their way underneath the Christmas tree. One particular game, Game Party: In Motion, looks to be fun for the entire family and, although I can't review it, I'm giving you guys the chance to win it.

2010 Holiday Gift Guide: NEW Computer Engineer Barbie {Giveaway}

Wednesday, December 15, 2010 198 comments

I'm a self-bonified geek, but I say that very proudly with my head held high. I love being Social Media Savvy. I enjoy everything about the internet and all the gadgets that make it easier to network. For instance, my iPhone has become my best friend. If Santa brings me an iPad, it may replace my husband. Just sayin'.

All kidding aside, my daughter sits, watches, and learns everything I do online,through writing, and wants to do it too. It warms my heart to know she's learning to love what I do, but what excites me is the fact that Mattel, our favorite toy brand, is embracing a variety of careers for their long-standing, ever popular Barbie Dolls in their I Can Be... line. This year, her career path has gone a little "Geeky" and I love it! Computer Engineer Barbie has hit stores shelves for Christmas time, completely laid out with her very own laptop and cellphone. Have you read my Facebook profile in which I state... Everyone Loves a Geeky Girl? Barbie proves this true.

Holiday Preparation: Holiday Costumes for Christmas Events {Gift Card Giveaway}

Tuesday, December 14, 2010 73 comments

My family usually has a variety of costumes for different events throughout the year. For instance, our school usually has creative dress-up days during Red Ribbon Week so costumes come in handy for 50's day, Groovy Day, and Aloha Day, but that's not the only reason we keep costumes on hand. My daughter loves to dress-up for imaginative fun and we, often, forget that other Holidays usually call for some kind of costume.

This Christmas, Star Costumes has you covered whether you need Kids Biblical Costumes, Elf Costumes, or Angel Costumes. You can even shop their array of girls costumes for Christmas gifts. In fact, I ordered my daughter a Hannah Montana costume for that very reason.

Saturday, December 11, 2010 2 comments

Hello from Oklahoma City, OK! We're coming to you LIVE from Sooner City and if I had time to video my surroundings I'd, most definitely, be giving all of you guys a look into where we are, what we're doing, and how spoiled we feel right now.

We decided to take an early Christmas Vacation to visit my husband's side of the family and to tell you the truth? We may never leave. The kids love it here. The Hub Man loves it here and, quite frankly, I love it here, but all good times must come to an end and we'll hit that freeway, come Monday, with screaming children all begging to stay. On this trip, there has been one, particular, sanity saver in the form of a USB disguised as an adorable pink monster. Yes, the Sesame Street Video USB is gaining popularity this Holiday Season among families and, with our 8-hour long Holiday Trip, I know exactly why.

Beauty Finds: 7 Confidence Boosters for Stay-At-Home-Moms {Flat Iron Giveaway}

Thursday, December 9, 2010 126 comments

Yesterday, I looked in the mirror and asked myself, Did you shower today? My days have been so chaotic and I, honestly, could not remember if I had or hadn't. Then I found the wet towel on the floor. Oh yeah. That's right. I did shower. Now who's going to pick that up?

I give you that little tidbit of humor from my day, because I know a lot of Moms are like me, going on little sleep, driving carpools, chaperoning field trips, feeding babies in the middle of the night (thank God I'm not there anymore), or... blogging. My days are always jam packed, so when I head to the grocery store, I want to get everything I need all in one stop. There's no reason to drag a screaming 3-yr-old from store to store to store. So, I grab my groceries at H-E-B and shop their beauty section for items like Make-Up, Fragrances, Cleansers, Shampoo & Conditioner, and their NEW Styling tools, such as the HAI Hot Tunes Flat Iron.

TV Talk: Lucy Liu Stars in Lifetime Movie Event Marry Me

Wednesday, December 8, 2010 4 comments

A few nights ago, we had a friend over for dinner. Actually, a friend of my husband's. A guy. The topic of conversation turned to movies in which he stated, "I  can get into "Rated C" movies." Being the slow-to-get-the-joke-type, I asked, "Rated C?" He confidently replies, "Yeah, Chick Flicks."

As I pondered the words coming out of his mouth, him confidently stating he loves to watch romantic movies, I thought, He'd be perfect to invite to my screening party for Marry Me. Lifetime Television is premiering the ultimate romantic movie in a two part mini series, this Sunday December 12th through Monday the 13th. Marry Me stars, everyone's favorite Angel, Lucy Liu as she struggles to choose between THREE guys who want to marry her. THREE! Did it just get hot in here?

Music Talk: Norah Jones .... Featuring Project {Giveaway}

I love me some music, there's no doubt about it. Growing up in Texas, I've been a long-time lover of Country Music, however, that's not what I grew up on. I grew up listening to Spanish music. I mean, I AM Hispanic, so you probably aren't surprised. Since moving around the country, I've discovered an array of musical inspiration. Everything from Jazz to Rock to Salsa and Mergengue and back to Contemporary Christian.

Yeah. I'm a lover of quite the eclectic mix. Last month, I discovered an Album by one of my favorite artists, Norah Jones. It's her new ... Featuring Album which spans Norah’s entire career and reveal her astonishing musical versatility, from jazz to country, hip-hop to rock. Right up my alley, right?

Raising Girls: A Closet of Her Own T-Shirts {Giveaway}

Monday, December 6, 2010 68 comments

My daughter is very much the girly girl. She loves pink, frills, tiaras, fashion, and make-up. I feel it's important to help my daughter embrace her beauty and learn how to, modestly, dress and act. I also feel each child has a unique personality with an array of qualities and interests. That being said, my daughter loves all things pink, but she also loves sports. She also loves animals, history and math, all things associated with, what you would think, are boy interests.

Up until now, I haven't found a company that embraces both sides of children's interests. Sports shirts are blue, green, or black. Princess shirts are pink and purple. When was the last time you saw a Sports shirt tailored to young girls? When have you seen a girl wearing a pink dinosaur shirt? I have, just recently, thanks to A Closet of Her Own, a store that specializes in girl shirts, with images such as firetrucks, basketballs, and, my personal favorite, the sport of running.

Music Monday: Come Home - Mercy and Love is Unlimited

It was one of those cold days in Memphis. My heart was taking on stress that should have,surely, landed me in the hospital, however, I'm stronger than I thought I could ever be. My hands shaking, my bones shivering, I picked up the phone to call my parents. "We need money." My heart sank as I faced the embarrassment of failure.

My Mom says, "Of course. How much do you need? What's going on?" Our electricity was about to be shut off, our pantry was bare, and no matter how hard we worked, the money coming in, just wasn't enough. My husband's job had demoted him since he, voluntarily asked to be transferred and take a lower position, all in attempt to save our family. This decision would, ultimately, keep us together, however it shattered us financially. After we talked, my Father whispers into the phone and he says, "Mijita. Come Home. Just come home."

So, we did.

Video Game Review: PETZ Nursery 2 Nintendo DS Game {Win It!}

Wednesday, December 1, 2010 236 comments

We, recently, adopted a real LIVE pet. He's a sweetheart of a puppy and I was so excited to have him come into our home. After a few weeks, however, the newness wore off and I'm stuck with kids shell shocked at the hard work it takes to care for a dog. There's the cleaning, the potty training, the feeding, the bathing, the playing, the walking... the discipline. Man! I didn't realize it would be so hard to train this dog! Now, instead of my kids, happily feed him, they grumble when I remind them he needs to eat.

I will say this, though... He's family. All our hard work is paying off as he learns just how to act in our home. It will pay off as he matures. My daughter told me the other day, "Mom, taking care of a real dog is nothing like taking care of my dog on PETZ Nursery." No, honey, it's WAY different. I tell you that story because, when my daughter is done with her chores, she sits on her bed, and takes care of MORE pets in PETZ Nursery 2 for Nintendo DS.
