Contest Alert: Win & Give a Laptop with Betty Crocker

Thursday, February 25, 2010 36 comments

Earlier this week, I spoke about Potty Training with NEW Technology. Our children are growing up in a world of which, I knew nothing about, when I was a kid. Laptops, Blackberries, iPhones? Looking at my young children, I can't help but think how far we've come in technological advances and how information, knowledge, and possibilities are endless. No wonder, it only took my 3-year-old son about a week to work a laptop. He has his 6 and 7-year-old siblings to help him!

All kidding aside, computers are essential to children and students everywhere to learn and engage in the world around them. That's why we're happy to let all of you know about the Win & Give a Laptop initiative by Betty Crocker Fruit Flavored Snacks.

Potty Training Your Child with New Technology

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 1 comments

We've started Potty Training my son on his 3rd Birthday. He shows signs of readiness, but he also shows signs of laziness. It's like pulling teeth to get this boy to walk to the bathroom. So, I've been looking for new and fun ways to get him excited.

I mean, the reward chart, treasure chest, and Cheerio in the toilet can only go so far, right? Don't get me wrong, all of those methods work. They've worked with my other two children and they are awesome incentives, but I need something else. Something with a little UMPH! Something that speaks to my child and relates to what he sees every day. Know what I mean?

Today, children are more technologically advanced. I mean, my son, who JUST turned 3, knows his way around my laptop, my digital camera, my iTouch, iPhone Apps, and my Blackberry like nobody's business. He sees me use these gadgets every day and has taken to them as his every day normal.

Inspired by Mom 2.0 Summit, Music Monday: Sometimes

Monday, February 22, 2010 1 comments

Last weekend, I had the privilege to attend Mom 2.0 Summit, right here in Houston. As I mentioned before, it was difficult juggling the family at home and driving 20 minutes each day (sometimes twice) to focus and breath in everything. There are amazing women, amazing speakers, amazing bloggers, amazing companies, and amazing creative encouragement.

The thing is.

Here's the thing.

Before this weekend, I was feeling really discouraged. My Grandfather passed away, my laptop died, bills were piling up, and I struggled to get out of bed, much less blog, wash dishes, or play with my children. Don't get me wrong, I did all of them, but didn't feel I was putting all of ME into it.

I prayed. A lot.

Mommas, What You're Doing Matters

Wednesday, February 17, 2010 5 comments

As I prepare to head to Mom 2.0 Summit, here in Houston, I'm a bit distracted. Each time I devoted a weekend to a conference I got to devote ALL of myself. There was nothing else going on, kids were safely at home, without the the option of having Mom come home if they skinned their knee on the sidewalk.

This year, however, I feel like I'm going to struggle to balance everything at home, yet engage with all the amazing women that will be present. I keep thinking I'm going to miss out on all the evening events and last minute get-togethers because I'll be taking the commute back home to cook dinner, or help kids with homework, or throw in a load of laundry, or ease my Husband's nerves.

Dockers Proves Chivalry is Not Dead *Giveaway*

Tuesday, February 16, 2010 269 comments

As my fingers typed away on Twitter during the Super Bowl, I was caught off guard when I saw swarms of men with no pants appear on my TV screen. Men-Wearing-Whitey-Tighties-Say-What?!

I, later, got a good chuckle when I realized it was the Dockers Men Without Pants Super Bowl Commercial. It was all about men stepping up and wearing the pants - even though they weren't! As we come down from our Sugar high from Heart filled candy boxes, I want to know all about your Valentine's Day! Please leave out who wasn't wearing the pants in your house and instead tell me who WAS.

Well, this Momma MIGHT have nudged him along by purchasing a new Potty Chair, buying new Toy Story Underwear, and reading him Scholastic's New Pirate Potty book.

Okay, Okay, I even made a potty chart that we taped on the wall right next to his Potty Chair. I'm ready to get this show on the road and the best part? The Ups and Downs of Love

With Valentine's Day all wrapped up and over, I can't help but think how misconstrued love really is.

I mean, I asked my 6-year-old what love is and she said, "Love is when you care about someone so much all you wanna do is hug 'em and kiss 'em all day."

I asked my 3-year-old what love is and his answer? "Love is Momma."

So many different ways to look at it, yet some people, especially married couples look at love all the wrong way. They see love as Romance, Candles, Presents, all those things that make you feel good, but what about the side of love that doesn't feel good? The hurtful side of love. Is it love?

I'm Going to Mom 2.0 Summit 2010, Are You?

Sunday, February 14, 2010 3 comments

I Love Houston &
The Mom 2.0 Summit

Wow, 2010 has started so quickly for me here at Momma Findings. This is the first year where I actually feel like social media is moving so fast and I'm having to work double hard to keep up. That's a good thing, right?

I've been planning my year in bits and pieces: What conferences will I attend? What are my goals for Momma Findings this year? How can I engage my online community better than last year? How do I balance being a Mom and Social Media influencer? What ways can I set myself apart from others?

As I think about all of the above, I find myself attending my very first conference of the year, Mom 2.0 Summit right here in Houston.

Disney Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie's Bow-Tique *Review & Giveaway*

Thursday, February 11, 2010 85 comments

My 3-year-old loves him some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. There's something about that song, "It's the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Come inside it's all inside!" It melts my heart to see him sing, dance, and yell out, "Oh Toodles!"

Before I learned about the Newly Released Minnie's Bow-tique my 6-year-old came to me just Over-the-Moon that Minnie would be opening her very own Bow-tique. Mickey is wonderful, but having the show focus on Minnie, well, let's just say little girls in households across the country are pretty excited, including my very own.

Hot Dog, Hot Dog, Hot Diggity Dog, let's go to Minnie's Grand Opening!

Review: Nowali Moccasins in NEW Spring Styles *Giveaway*

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 77 comments

Today, I woke to frost on the ground and the heat blaring. Although we're in a coastal Texas town, it was a bit cold today. Granted, we're aren't getting pounded with snow like New York or DC we DID need our coats as we headed out the door to catch the school bus.

I quickly snuggled up with my 3-year-old to warm up on the couch, only to feel his ice cold toes on my legs. So, it's still Winter, but we're right on the edge of Spring temperatures. Nowali has the answer to keep those tiny toes warm, yet celebrate Spring flowers and sunny picnic days with their new line of Spring Moccasins.

Local Findings: BabySpot Houston Launches this Saturday

In the last 8-9 years my family moved... a lot! If I want to put an actual number on it, I'd say we've moved around 8 times. My husband's job took us to different areas of Texas, Memphis, TN, and Charlotte, NC. We finally decided to come home to Baytown, right outside of Houston.

Yesterday, we took my son to Trophy Barber shop for a haircut. As I waited the Barber, Chris, chatted with my husband and I asking if they did his 1st haircut. I mentioned, "Probably not, we lived in Memphis the last few years." He then asked us why we moved back......... Simply Put, "We wanted to come home."

Sweet Birthdays Make Mothering Worth It

Tuesday, February 9, 2010 3 comments

Three years ago, I paced my hospital room, waiting for the staff to tell me I could go home. I had my sweet Jackson Rudene (aka: Rudy) at 7:00 that morning and just KNEW I'd be more comfortable at home. I mean, C'MON! I've done this twice before. I was a pro by now and knew all about taking care of a newborn baby and my body postpartum.

A friend of mine visited saying, "Wow, you look great! Doesn't even look like you were pregnant." She said it because my precious firecracker was a 9lb. baby. Of course my tummy flattened after giving birth to a watermelon!

Review: Style and Beauty with Abby Z. Designs

Monday, February 8, 2010 1 comments

On my Wedding Day I donned a Size 2 wedding dress. No, I'm not here to brag, but instead here to talk about the various sizes I've gone through since having babies. My body shape has gone up to a size 14, back to an 8, and up again to a 12. It's crazy to think a sweet, precious child can, literally, shape a woman's body, however, that same child shouldn't affect one's inner Fashionista.

Valentine's Day is one of those Holidays where women everywhere pull out their sexiest dresses, gather the sweetest perfume, and head out on the town with their beau. Well, this year, look no further than Abby Z. and the fashion that fits any size from 2-24. Women, in any shape or size, can be confident, fierce, and stylish!

Music Monday: Your Hands

I vowed to get back to "normal" last week. Umm... I didn't do too well with that.

I cried a lot.
I couldn't get out of bed.
I wasn't able to do much of anything.

Most of you know that my Grandfather "Pop" recently passed away and my world has literally been shaking. My heart still hurts over the whole week. Flashbacks hit me out of nowhere. The night before he passed I couldn't sleep. I think it was the Lords way of preparing my heart, He was trying to have me listen to Him, talk to Him, pray to Him.

Air Bud: Golden Receiver Special Edition DVD *Review & Giveaway*

Sunday, February 7, 2010 38 comments

Football excitement is in this house as we witnessed the New Orleans Saints win their very first Super Bowl Championship. This year was the first year the kids and I watched it without Daddy. Unfortunately he had to work, but that didn't stop this Momma from cooking up some great food and teaching the kids just how fun Football can be.

After eating and getting our fill of Super Bowl plays and Doritos commercials, my children continued their football themed night with Disney's Air Bud: Golden Reciever.

Game Day Dip Pick: Dean's Dips

I can feel the football excitement in my bones. It's Super Bowl Sunday and I'm sure most of you know what that means: Food, Fun, and Football!!!! This year, two of my favorite teams are playing against eachother. So, I'm imagining all the households around the US donned out in Blue and White or Black and Gold.

I've been out for about a week, so I regretfully didn't have time to post my awesome Game Day Recipes, however, there are a few dips that I can't leave out this year. Dean's Dips has an array of selections for either the small get together or the big neighborhood party!

When Family Tragedy Affects Your Online Presence

Friday, February 5, 2010 9 comments

I consider myself, Social Media savvy. I do the Twitter thing, I blog every day, I interact as a consultant, help with campaigns, I am an advocate for companies I love, I Facebook, I track Stats, I "Hash Tag", in other words, I love me some Social Media.

But when a family tragedy arises, such as a death in the family, my life stops... both online and off. When I return? It's a jumble of emails, tweets, intant messages, press releases, deadline reminders, and stat reports.

If you've ever experienced a close family tragedy/death/funeral/sickness how do you overcome it once it's over and your healing process begins?

Review: Valentine's Day with the I Heart Jonas DVD

When I was younger, it was ALL about the New Kids on the Block. I absolutely adored Joey and just knew I would, some day, marry him, but they swiftly became yesterdays news as they sizzled out of the music scene. Well, I still love them and was absolutely giddy a song of theirs debuted on Just Dance for the Wii. Oh, and don't even mention them to my friend Toni, she's a New Kids on the Block Fanatic!

This young generation has a new craze in the shape of three brothers, the Jonas Brothers! My daughter loves them, I love them, my toddler loves them.... Daddy? Well, we're still working on him. Last month their new DVD, I Heart Jonas, debuted on DVD, just in time for Valentine's Day!
