What's the Best Gift You Ever Gave?

To get in the Holiday Spirit, Clever Girls and Swagg asked me write about the best gift I've ever given. To tell you the truth, all the gifts I've ever given are kind of jumbled in my head. I'm not positive who I gave what and when it happened exactly, but the gifts that stick in my head are the ones we added a personal touch to.

For instance, one year we went to Starbucks and asked for an empty coffee cup. We filled the cup with strips of notebook paper and on those strips were everything we loved and appreciated about my Mother-In-Law. It was so sweet to hear and see her pull each strip out and read it aloud. It helped that there was a Starbucks gift card in there too.

Now I can't talk the best gift I'VE ever given, without talking about the best gift I ever got! The first year I was married to my husband he gave me the most thoughtful gift of all.

It wasn't expensive.

It wasn't shiny.

In fact, I can't even remember what the actual gift was, but I remember the gift-receiving experience. We arrived home and he handed me a tiny box. It was wrapped in red paper with a green bow and when I opened it, there was a strip of paper (can you tell we like strips of paper to convey messages of love?) that read:

Off on a scavenger hunt I went going from room to room, in and out of the house. It was so much fun, as the anticipation built up stronger and stronger. We laughed the whole time and, to this day, it sticks in my heart as one of my best gifts EVER.
