Video Game Review: Battle of the Giants Dinosaurs Strike Wii Game {Giveaway}

If you choose to go the ultimate battling route, I've got the perfect Wii game for you. Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs Strike, is the sequel to the original Battle of Giants game, extremely popular among 7-9 year-old boys. Apparently, it's very popular with my 3-yr-old son too. Who doesn't like to fight large, sharp-toothed dinosaurs, while the soundtrack of an epic battle scene plays in the background?
About the Game:
150 million years ago the world was dominated by powerful giant creatures: the Dinosaurs. The Golden Age of Dinosaurs went through a great series of cataclysms that changed the surface of the planet forever. Survival became a perilous quest. With natural disasters wreaking havoc, chaos has taken over and the fight to become the top predator begins.
Game Features:
- Engage in fast-paced fights with direct control over your giant creature. Perform real-time actions such as blocking, dodging, hitting and execute your new super combination attack.
- Explore 3 different breathtaking environments including tropical forest, desert and mountain. Protect yourself from 4 different natural disasters while fighting - from earthquakes to volcano eruptions!
- Choose and customize your favorite Dinosaur among 18 breeds such as T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Velociraptor, Triceratops, Ankylosaurus, and Baryonyx.
- Battle together in a variety of multiplayer modes, including 4-Player Tournament Mode, Tag Team Battle Mode, or Conquest Mode where you must race against your opponent to dominate the territory!
Momma Findings:
We got to try the game. Well, let me take that back my 3-yr-old got to dominate the game and gave my 8-yr-old son and myself a few tries at it too. There are a few things we absolutely LOVED, such as:
- The Dinosaurs: Right away, this appealed to both my sons. Seeing a variety of dinosaurs and being able to battle each other was awesome. You can choose between 18 different breeds, but our favorite, hands down, was T-Rex. C'MON! He rocks!
- Modes of Play: There are a three modes of play including Domination Mode (1 Player), Versus Mode (1 to 4 Players), and Tournament Mode (1 to 4 Players). These options give my boys the ability to invite friends over, play against each other, or, better yet, play alone when big brother is at school.
- Customization: Boys want to look tough. Being able to change the color, texture, and pattern of your dinosaur makes for interesting combos.
- Combat Styles: There are different combat styles. Standard allows for one person to fight in a dual. Then there is Tag Team, in which two teams fight each other, basically, tagging out when one dinosaur needs rest, vice versa.
- Music: I've heard different reviews on the music. People, either, really hate it or really love it. I lean towards the side of loving it. It's intense for a video game. Throw in a 3-yr-old boy who's never played a battling game before, along with vicious dinosaurs, in wild environments, well that makes for some yelling and jumping on the 3-yr-old's part (okay and the Momma's part too).
- Difficulty: The game isn't hard. I'll say that much. You might see that as a con, instead of a pro, but I'll tell you my reasoning... it gets harder the more you fight, but I like that it starts off easy enough for my youngest to rake in some wins simply by pushing random buttons, moving around, and maneuvering the nunchuck.
Momma Improvements:
As always, I want to be as transparent as I possibly can in all my review, but especially my Video Game Reviews for kids. I say that because I know I've experienced buyers remorse when I pay $50 bucks for a game, then my child tries playing, only to surrender because it's too hard. There goes that money down the drain. That being said there are two things I want to mention about the game, I feel, you should know about:
- Amount of Players: You CAN play up to 4 players, however, be aware that each player NEEDS a nunchuck. My family has 3 remotes, but only 1 working nunchuck (1 broke, don't ever buy off brand nunchucks). Suggestion: When inviting friends over, ask if they can bring their own nunchuck or plan to invest in a few should your family be lacking in the nunchuck department.
Final Findings:
In the end, Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs Strike has grown in popularity in our house. The music gets us pumped, the battling brings out the competitiveness in us, and the classic "fight game" remains a hit among young boys.
