Thanksgiving is only a stones throw away and I'm getting so excited to spend it with family. I spent about 6 or 7 years cooking Thanksgiving all by myself for just my husband and kids. We lived so far away from family and friends that our Thanksgiving was always very small, very intimate, yet very memorable.
This year, however, we live back home, in Texas, and are surrounded by so many people that love us. We'll have a very long, yet memorable Thanksgiving Day, but one thing I love about this day is, not only taking the time to be thankful for all I'm blessed with or the yummy food, but basting in the beginning of the Christmas Season. It's the perfect time to pull out all your Christmas decorations, turn on the Seasonal Tunes, and, at the end of the day, relax in front of the TV with the family for a Christmas movie, such as Disney's The Search For Santa Paws.
About The Search For Santa Paws:
Bonus Features:
Insider's Peek:
Momma Findings:
I'll admit it. My children started watching Christmas movies in September. My little one has been asking for The Santa Clause 2 for the last month (maybe longer). It's an old movie, but it's new to him being that he saw a preview for it on all the older Disney movie's he's just now discovering. They have also been addicted to the Home Alone series. Amazing that such old movies can be so new to them.
So, when I received The Search For Santa Paws my 3-yr-old jumped up and down, stopped what he was doing, and immediately snuggled on the couch to watch. Then my older two, 8 and 7-yrs-old, joined him after they heard the screams of, "It's a new Christmas MOVIE!! It has talking DOGS!!"
Yeah. It doesn't take much to get my kids excited. Christmas and dogs will do it.
This movie takes a step back in time before the 2009 Santa Buddies: The Legend of Santa Paws stories. In that movie, we go on adventure with Puppy Paws, the son of Santa Paws. The Search For Santa Paws, however, takes you back to a time where Santa and Santa Paws first meet and become friends.
If you've seen Santa Buddies: The Legend of Santa Paws this will fit in nicely. If you haven't, even better. My children and I haven't seen Santa Buddies, so finding out the story that began it all definitely gives you a feel for the entire series.
Throughout the movie, you encounter a magical talking dogs, which brings your family into the fun world of Santa Paws, his buddies, and Santa himself. Full of laughs, adventure, and happy endings, we had a great time watching.
Momma Improvements:
I have to say this about the movie, although a great Family film, there are a few scenes that might scare your children. My kids were taken aback when Santa Paws was about to be thrown into the furnace by "the mean lady" (my kids called her that). Suggestion: Be aware there is a villain in the movie, she is human, which makes it all the more real to them. Be prepared to talk to your kids about it.
As a Christian mother, I have to also say that the movie is described as showing the children of the world the spirit of Christmas, however, it's skewed in my opinion because the spirit of Christmas, the ONLY reason for Christmas, is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. For me, the movie depicts Christmas as magic, toys, and togetherness, which isn't all that bad, however, we will never take the Christ out of Christmas. He goes hand in hand with all the blessings and joy of the season.
Final Findings:
All in all, I feel The Search for Santa Paws is a great family film for the Holidays. Children, especially mine, can't get enough of those talking dogs and throw in the magical land of the North Pole, it makes it even better. Meant to be a movie about Santa and his buddies, I understand that the main point was not Christian centered, but more for entertainment purposes. Entertain it did and the kids loved it.

My favorite Christmas movie is probably Grinch Who Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey. I just love the costumes and Jim Carrey brings so much to the Grinch character. It just isn't Christmas till we watch this movie.

Our fave holiday movie to watch as a family is A Christmas Story. My husband loves that movie. He watched it as a kid and we watch it now. It comes on TBS or TNT, I think, for 24 hours on Christmas Eve/Day and we look forward to it every year. To hear my husband laugh at it like he did when he was a kid is a real treat for me.
