Local Findings: Summer Dishes for the Family at Carrabba's Italian Grill

This week was the official start of the 2010-11 School Year for my children. We've enjoyed our Summer and my husband and I, wanted to devote one special night to celebrate the end of lazy days and splashin' waves.

Last Thursday, we sent our 3-yr-old off to hang with his grandparents, while we took our oldest two out to eat at one of favorite places, Carrabba's Italian Grill in Webster. They are going to a new school and we wanted to sit down, enjoy a good dinner, and let them know how proud we are of them. It was a good time to hear their concerns, worries, and excitement about the upcoming school year. We also reminisced about all the fun times we had this Summer: Sea World, Water Parks, Swimming, etc. Plus, I was on a mission to check out their $10 Summer Meals.

About Carrabba's Italian Grill:

Johnny Carrabba and Damian Mandola founded the first Carrabba’s Italian Grill in 1986 in Houston, Texas. Today, there are 232 Carrabba’s Italian Grill locations around the country, run by passionate local proprietors focused on delighting guests with fresh, made-to-order Italian cuisine and the ultimate dining experience. Carrabba’s serves dinner 7 nights a week in a casual environment that pairs innovative dishes and a complementary wine list with abundant hospitality. For on-the-go guests, Carrabba’s also offers convenient Carside Carry-Out.

Summer Family Specials:

Carrabba’s is offering a variety of Signature Pastas starting at only $10, offering something to fit every personality and every budget. Such as:

  • Tag Pic Pac: Composed of Tagliarini in a Picchi Pacchiu sauce with crushed tomatoes, fresh garlic, olive oil and basil.
  • Penne Franco: Combines sweet, tart sundried tomatoes, mushrooms, artichoke hearts and olives with ricotta salata for a savory, summery culinary delight.
  • Penne with Fennel Sausage Pomodoro: A creative combination of caramelized onions and fennel, cooked up with a sausage Pomodoro sauce and penne pasta.

Momma Findings Family Thoughts:

Carrabba's asked me if I'd like to try their new Summer Meals. Can you blame me for jumping at the chance?! I'll be honest here and say Carrabba's holds very special memories for us. We used to travel with my husband for business trips. If Carrabba's was around, we were eating there. We've celebrated promotions, successful moves, kids milestones, holidays, and now the End of Summer and the beginning of a fun, exciting school year.

The service at Carrabba's has always been outstanding. However, this particular night, our waitress, Jessika, went over and beyond. We were well taken care of and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our visit.

The $10 Summer Meals are an excellent choice for families on a budget, however, our FAVORITE meal is the Chicken Trio. My husband and I usually share this dish for a low $18.50 and add an extra salad. My kids are very predictable and go with cheese pizza or spaghetti and meatballs. Hey, for under $5 bucks, you can't beat it.

Now dessert. We usually pass on dessert because we're so full, but we had a little left over in our gift certificate that we felt the Sogna di Cioccolata would be a good choice. Let's just say... we should have gotten two orders.

Carrabba's Italian Grill was the PERFECT dinner spot for my little family and I definitely recommend! Still not sure? Check out our Whrrl Story and grab a peek at our fun:

Yes Andrea! (BTW, it's so nice to "see" you!!!) It was an awesome way to talk to my kids about how they feel about Back To School. They are going to a new school, so I was nervous about how the conversation would go, but YES... they are growing up WAY too fast and we started school already.

Oh and Carrabba's has ALWAYS been our fave place to celebrate kids milestones. Service there is awesome!

We have a Carrabbas about 2 hours from us and whenever we are in the vicinity we make sure to get that delicious chocolate dream cake to go. It is the best dessert EVER!!!!

Jen- Oh this was the VERY first time I had the chocolate dream cake. Heaven, indeed. We shared one for the four of us, but next time I want my own to-go!
