Every once in awhile there's a movie that makes my heart flutter. I felt that way when I watched Hope Floats, My Best Friend's Wedding, The Notebook, and now Dear John. It's a movie all about love and the struggle you face wondering if he's your true soul mate.
I met Brian, my husband of 9 years, in the most simplistic way, through a friend. I can be honest now and say this friend was the only person I saw myself marrying.
We were best friends, still are.
He introduced me to Brian and things changed. Within six months we were engaged. Six months later we married. Six months after our wedding, I was became pregnant with our first child. When my child turned 6 months, I learned I was pregnant with my second.
Time moves fast. In marriage, sometimes it can feel long. So, how can you be sure you love will withstand the test of time? It's work, it's commitment, and it's an understanding of what true love really means.
Dear John brought me back to the time Brian and I first met, how we fell in love, and couldn't get enough of each other. Have you seen the movie?
About Dear John:
It was two weeks that would change their lives forever. Soon after John and Savannah fall madly in love, their relationship is put on hold. With one leaving to complete his service, and the other to complete her college education, they pass the time by exchanging a continuous stream of love letters, until they can be reunited permanently a year later. But when war breaks out, their separation is extended indefinitely. Will their relationship survive the greatest test of all: the test of time? Based on the best-selling novel from the author of The Notebook, DEAR JOHN is a timeless romance that will warm your heart.
My Love Story and Thoughts:
I, absolutely, loved the movie. Channing Tatum makes it easy on the eyes, but that's only one of the reasons. Watching young love turn into an adult emotion is what hit my heart the most. Some days, I still feel like a teenager, looking at my husband as I did 9 years ago. In reality, however, I'm an adult with three children to protect and care for, an SUV, a house note, bills, and the sad fact that I'm reaching the point of my grandparents passing. Life gets so scary, but I can bare it because I know my husband, my soul mate, is there in support.
Dear John takes me through all of the emotions I felt the last nine years, even down to the day of September 11th. Like Savannah, I was in College. I, distinctly, remember a professor running into our class saying we're under a terrorist attack. Everyone was running to their cars, people were crying on the phone, and all I could think about was getting home to my husband.
September 11th changed things for John and Savannah as we turned into a country at war. Most don't know this, but it changed things for me too. That night, my first child was conceived. We were young, scared, and unsure of what the future would bring. Brian asked me, "If God took us tomorrow, what's one thing you wish He would have blessed you with during your time here?"
A child.
