Local Findings: Five Guys Burgers and Fries

I love exploring my little town and when a new business or restaurant sets up shop, it doesn't take me long to see what they're all about. I'll admit, it might take me a while to blog about them, but that's only because... well. .. it's because my life with three children is constantly busy.

On this day, my toddler and I are checking out Baytown's newest burger joint: Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Now, they aren't new to us because we've tried them in Charlotte, NC before my toddler was eating table food. I have to throw that in, because we've learned, since, that he has a severe allergy to peanuts. If you've been to any Five Guys you might know where I'm going with this.

Let's go over a little bit of Five Guys facts:

-There are over 250,000 possible ways to order a burger at Five Guys.
-They use only fresh ground beef.
-There are no freezers in Five Guys locations, just coolers.
-Nothing is ever frozen.
-They use only Peanut oil.
-Their menu is trans-fat free.

Momma Findings Family Thoughts:

Alright, we've got the facts. I love that it's plain and simple. Burgers and Fries are their specialty and don't waste time on other menu items when their customers want "burgers and fries". I like that. It's the epitome of the classic burger joint. As I said before, I enjoyed eating at the location in Charlotte, NC and fell in love with their fries. (Did I mention I'm addicted to good fries?)

This particular trip involved my 3-year-old son. Although, Five Guys does a wonderful job at catering to the burger-craving adult, there isn't much kid friendliness. There are no small portions (kids meal menu) for young children, which leaves my child with a hotdog he won't finish, a drink that's too big for his hands, and fries that might go to waste. In order to fix the issue, him and I shared fries, however, he doesn't share drinks. He likes his own and that's that (or he doesn't like Momma Coodies ). So, right off the bat, I'm feeling like I'm overpaying for his food, while most might just go to waste. Not a happy Momma.

Here's the kicker folks. The service I received at Five Guys was amazing. This is one of the most important things to me when I'm choosing a place to take my children and family. Great service will always win me over, ALWAYS. My cashier explained to me what small portions would work best for my toddler and I. He even helped me get my drinks (Mommas hands can get full easily). Once we were seated he brought me my food (most people walk up to the counter to get it) and then checked on us later. When I mentioned I needed ketchup and didn't want to leave my toddler there with our food and my purse, he left with a smile and returned with one carrying our, much needed, condiment.

After such great service, I was a little disappointed when I realized all their food is cooked in peanut oil. My child hasn't been affected by foods cooking in peanut oil, so I wasn't AS alarmed, until I saw this:

Oh my Momma Heart almost stopped.

Although the service was wonderful, food allergies win this one. I can't take my child and his peanut allergy back to Five Guys and that's disappointing. I can, however, take my husband on a lunch date sans children.
