It doesn't even have to be a big day out. I mean, we're a family of 5 on a very tight budget, but you'll be surprised at all the fun stuff my children like to do that don't cost a penny. For instance, my children love picnics at the park. We pack up lunch in the cooler, plenty of drinks, our soccer ball, maybe bikes or scooters, and we have a whole day to lounge around looking for the latest animal cloud in the sky or race to the finish barefoot in the grass. We have fun doing it, leaving nobody out, not even Daddy.
So, with Mother's Day in less than a week, what are you planning? Every year, I've never asked to have a day off to venture off by myself to the spa, although that would be nice on any other day. I love embracing the role I've been blessed with and there isn't a better way to do it than with my sweet children and loving husband.
I'm a sucker for breakfast in bed, fresh cut flowers (daisies are my favorite), handmade cards, chocolates, and the occasional piece of James Avery Jewelry, but I want my family around me while I breath it all in.

My favorite time with my family was when we took a cruise with my husband's family. There were 24 of us. We had an awesome time but still carved out time for just us. One of the fun things we did was tour Cozumel with stops at San Gervasia and the beach.
My favorite family outing was when we went on a picnic last summer and listened to a nice concert at the arboretum. The weather was just perfect and everyone enjoyed themselves - there was no fighting at all!

My favorite outing is when we go to our town's frontier days. They have a huge riverboat, and we ride on it. There is also a group that camps out, and wears clothes from the 1800's. It is really fun.

My husband and I try to make little dates out of our errands. We'll run some errands, go to the gym, maybe have a little lunch or go for a walk. It gives us "together" time and gets lots of little tasks done in the least annoying way.
We were headed for the coast and stopped at a little market for sodas. This little store was loaded with goodies. We were there for over an hour exploring. We got our sodas and deviled eggs (the best eggs ever).
When my son was small, we loved to take him to outdoor concerts and festivals of all kinds. There are always such varied people and things to do, it broadens your horizons, even in a small town.

my favorite outing was when we took my then 12 week old to the zoo in chicago the friday before my maternity leave ended. it was nice to have a fun family day before i had to start leaving him at the sitters.

My favorite outing is so hard to pick from. Last year we went to my brother's cottage and just watching my twins play with their big cousins was about as cute as anything I have ever seen. I also got to relax with my brother at the lake, so that was an added bonus.

Our favorite family outing was our trip to Herkimer, NY to mine Herkimer diamonds. We pounded rocks for hours but had an incredible time and diamonds (crystals) are always a good thing. I am queenesperfect at yahoo.com

The last time we had a bonfire on the beach! My grandfather has a cottage on a lake, and all our relatives get together every now and then, and build a huge bonfire, and roast marshmallows and hot dogs. Thank you!

Our most fun trip was to Laughlin for my daughter's dance competition! We got to see family who lives there, and got to eat dinner at the most incredible buffet restaurant!

My favorite family outing was when we went to Knoebel's campground and Amusement Park. It was the first time I had been camping since I was a child, but I really enjoyed it! It was my husband, son and I camping.
Knoebel's is a great investment for my family since my husband and I don't ride on rides, but we enjoy watching our son.
When we got back to the camp, we made hotdogs and roasted marshmallows.
I found on that trip that I do enjoy camping.

Nothing better than going for a peaceful family bike ride!
My family had annual Disneyland passes for 4 or 5 years and it was always a ton of fun when all of us would go. We'd bring a backpack full of bottled drinks and snacks and laugh a lot. My sister and brother (twins) are 6 now so spent most of the time in the stroller with the rest of us taking turns pushing them and spinning them in circles. We always had a blast even if we rode very few rides that day. Just the excuse to be together for an entire day with the magical atmosphere was great. Hopefully we'll be able to afford to get a pass again sometime.

My favorite outing as a family would have to be canoeing! The boys had such a fun time looking at all the birds and bugs and other creatures as we floated along! They liked being so up close and personal with nature.

My favorite family outing was when my parents, myself, & my husband all went to Luddington, Michigan together for vacation. We had such a great time together going sightseeing, walking on the beach, fishing, and sailing (well the sailing did not go so well -- no wind coming back along the beach so I ended up pulling my dad in the sailboat back to the house which was about a mile away! We still laugh about that!)

Our favorite outings always involve historical sites, museums, zoos, etc. Probably our best trip was to Colonial Williamsburg in VA. We spent several days exploring there and watching the reenactiments, plus we spent a day at Monticello (magnificent!!) and then a day away from learning at an amusement park. FUN!
