Poingo Reading System Review & Giveaway

Monday, December 8, 2008 Leave a Comment

We're all about reading here at this house. You should see my children's book cases (yes, we have two full)! In fact, when it comes down to Christmas and Birthday presents they usually have book titles right on top of the list.

That's why I was MORE than excited to discover the new Poingo reading system. It is the next generation of interactive books. You simply use the pen shaped Poingo to touch pictures or text on a page to hear it come alive. It uses a mini scanner to "read" microscopic symbols throughout a Poingo- enable book. What better way to bring your children's favorite character alive with stories, songs, sounds, and games!?

The Starter set includes Poingo and two over sized hardcover books featuring character from the Disney Pixar films Cars and Finding Nemo. You can find an array of titles as well such as Cinderella, The Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, and Winnie the Pooh. The really cool thing about this product, as opposed to other leading brands, is that the interactive content for all six launch titles is already loaded into the memory on the pen. There is no need for downloading each title. This is an A+ in my book after seeing my daughter's impatient fit when we realized we had to download the books with the Tag System she got for her Birthday this year.

As new titles become available, you can use the free content manager on the Poingo website to download your stories. With 256 megabytes of internal memory capacity, 50 different books at one time can be stored, allowing children to build a large library of fun, interactive stories. I'm really excited because in 2009, more cool books will be released such as: Hannah Montana, High School Musical, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Disney Princesses, and My Friends Tigger and Pooh.

The pen itself takes two AAA batteries which are included, and a USB cable for easy connection to a home computer, and features a headphone jack for those times you just need a little silence. All you Moms know EXACTLY what I'm talking about here!

There is one Momma Improvement I think I would make and that would be the ability to sound out each word. The pen does a wonderful job at reading the page so your child can follow along, but from what I could see, there is no way to start in the middle of the page or sound out a word for a slower individual learning experience.

Overall, this is definitely a pleaser for the Holidays, being a wonderful learning tool to help engage and foster the love of reading.

Buy It

Geared at ages 3 and up, the Poingo Starter Set retails for approximately $34.99 with individual books selling for $9.99 each, VERY affordable! You can make a purchase in the children's book department of places such as: Target, Toys 'R' Us, Walmart, Sam's clubs, Costco, and BJ's Wholesale Clubs, as well as www.discoverpoingo.com.

Win It!
Without fail, Momma Findings will bring one lucky winner to a euphoria of happiness by giving you a Poingo Starter set of your own! You think your children will be happy seeing this under the tree?!

All you have to do is leave a comment telling me who you'd give it to this Christmas. That's it!

Extra Entries

1.) As always, blog about this giveaway by linking back to this post and you'll receive 5 extra entries.

2.) To receive 3 extra throw me a little support by commenting at My Sippy Cup Runneth Over or Label Daddy Blog. If you add both blogs to your blog roll, you can snag 1 more extra for a total of 4. Make sure and come back here telling me what post you commented on.

3.) 2 extra entries if you digg, stumble, or tweet about this giveaway.

4.) And last, but certainly not least, earn 1 more if you give me a little help. I'm always looking for cool new products, companies, and boutiques. Give me a NAME of something you'd like to see me give away or review. This is important, be as specific as possible because I'm just one tiny person and sometimes I'm not in the "know" of what's popular, what's new, and what my readers like to see. If you know of a Mom Boutique you REALLY want to see reviewed here TELL me!

Contest starts today December 8-15th Midnight Central Time and open to US residents only. You don't have to be a blogger to enter, but please leave a valid email address for contact purposes.

**REMEMBER TO LEAVE EACH ENTRY IN SEPARATE COMMENTS IN ORDER FOR IT TO COUNT**

Something we have that we love is the Flo faucet attachment by Boon. I haven't seen them in stores like Target or WalMart and I found it through another blogger's review. I love it and rave about it to all my mom friends. It attaches to the faucet and just deflects the water out like a waterfall. It makes washing my 3 year olds hair a breeze because she just leans her head back into it. I got mine for $10 at Amazon.

I would give this to my daughter. She is learning to read now, so it would come in very handy.

I would love to see you giveaway the Playskool Cherry Blossom Market. I just bought it on sale at Amazon for $17.99. I was really excited because it normally costs around $50 or $60. It is like a play tent / market. It is really cute and I think a lot of parents with preschoolers would love it and benefit from having it, but the cost may turn a lot of people off.
