Hello Kitty MP3 Player Review & Giveaway

Monday, December 1, 2008 Leave a Comment

There is nothing quite like Hello Kitty. My daughter is full of smiles every time we pass the Sanrio store at the Mall. In fact, we can't pass without going in, but thankfully my husband tapping his foot at the entrance keeps us from going broke while there.

This Christmas give your child a Hello Kitty MP3 player made by Sakar. The cool thing about this player is the changing face plate. Depending on your Rock Star's mood, she can change them out to red, white, or pink.

I was just plain giddy to review this cool gadget that includes:

-3 Changing Face Plates
-USB Cord
-Set of Earphones
-Music Express Software

The minimum software requirements are Windows 2000, XP or Vista (sorry Mac users) and the hardware stats are Pentium II 300MHZ, 128 RAM Recommended, a sound card and 250MB Free Hard Disk Space.

I am an iPod Momma so I'm used to having a sleek, lightweight player. I've gotta tell you, this one didn't feel that MUCH different. With the battery installed, it was still very light and easy to carry. I was equally excited that is was easy to install. My computer automatically detected it and installed the drivers for me once the software and device were plugged in. Now, that is something to cheer for when you have a 5 year old breathing down your back to, "Hurry Mom!"

Now down to the face plates. My daughter had a hard time changing them at first. I was afraid she was going to break it, but after a little maneuvering on my part we worked on it together and it's really quite easy. My Father-In-Law always says, "You gotta be smarter than what you're working with."

Now, I know what most of you Mommas are thinking... It's always a pain getting music on those things, but seriously, as a technological impaired Mom myself the Music Express software included made it really easy. It detects music on your computer or it can grab music from CDs and convert them to WMA, WAV or MP3. You can also drag and drop the music into the player which reduces headaches from Mom and Dad.

One Momma Improvement I would make are the headphones and batteries. The plastic surrounding the ear was really uncomfortable for my daughter. Granted, she is 5 years old and her ears are smaller, but even I didn't like the way they felt in my ears. You can simply replace them with a pair you have at home. We own a pair of pink "old school" earphones that go over the head. They are made for children specifically and she loves them. I found them at Target if you're interested. Also, it's a bit of a pain to replace the AAA batteries. I think it would have been easier on all of us if it came with a rechargeable battery that can be charged separately or by plugging it into the computer itself.

Overall, we love the MP3 player. It's girly. It's fun. It's sure to please this Holiday Season.

Buy It
You can purchase the Hello Kitty MP3 player at Target, Toys R Us, and Wal-mart for 39.99.

Win It!
Do you want to try one of these cool MP3 players?! I know you do, that's why I've got your chance to win one, right here during our Christmas Delights party! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling me who you would give it to and what kind of music you'd download. Oldies? Preschool Songs? Contemporary Christian?

The big thing on Shelby's list this year is a cell phone. I'm still undecided on it at this point. She only wants one because so many of her friends have one, but she rarely ever calls anyone with our home phone so I know it's only the "cool factor" behind having one.

Most of my oldest girls want a cellphone for Christmas which they aren't getting. Sorry but if they manage to lose their DS on almost a daily basis I hate to wonder what a phone in the hands of 10-14 year olds would end up!

I would give it to my friend Jenn who collects Hello Kitty stuff. She is 28 but can't pass up an HK gift for her. It would be perfect. She would no doubt download her favorite classic rock songs.
