World Series of Fun

Thursday, October 23, 2008 Leave a Comment

Every year, my husband I get comfy on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and catch the excitement of the World Series. We love baseball! This year as the Rays and Philly's take the field, I plan on sharing that joy with my children.

I've loved the sport from an early age, due to my father and brother being baseball fanatics. I sat in the stands with the Team Mom (my Mother) and cheered on the coach (my Dad) and the players (my brother). Not only did I have fun, but I learned the fundamentals of baseball just by being there.

Now, it's a little easier for parents to teach the game of baseball to their children with The Sportys. The DVD features a team of lovable animated characters being taught the game of baseball (such as strike vs. ball and fair vs. foul), teamwork and sportsmanship, from the voice of Academy Award nominated actor Michael Clark Duncan as, “Stitch” the baseball. The series educates kids ages 3-10 about the fundamentals of baseball in an entertaining and fun way. The video quickly connects kids with the characters and their personalities, so they have a great time watching while truly learning what baseball is all about. This first DVD will be followed by additional exciting and informative videos for other sports.

“As a father, I wanted to create a sports video series that teaches the nuances of the game and gives kids more confidence and inspiration to actually get out there and play the game,” says Bobby Barad, sports attorney and creator of The Sportys, Inc. “With the help of the Sportys team, children will learn baseball’s fundamentals in a fun interactive environment, allowing them to enjoy watching sports and becoming a fan with their parents.”

As an added BONUS, The Sportys offers the entire family a tool to better their baseball experience with an additional “Coach at Home” segment featuring New York Yankees hitting coach, Kevin Long. The goal is to provide parents and care givers simple “at-home” pointers on teaching baseball skills to their children through creative, fun and effective instruction.

The Sportys retails for 19.99. For more information or to make a purchase, visit them online at: www.thesportys.com

Well since my son is going to start playing baseball in the spring this would be a great DVD for him. I think he would like Duke the best.

My nephew would like Lefty because he's left-handed and always argues with his sisters.

This would be great for my nephew. He's been trying all different sports to see which one is right for him. He would probably like Duke the best. Every little boy wishes he could be leader material.

    Nope, I never did play.

If Scooter, who plays second base, was blond, she'd be my three-year-old daughter. My two-year-old son would prefer Grunt.

My son has inherited his dad's take charge spirit, so I would imagine he would like Duke the best. I played softball with our 4H team and was always the catcher. I wished that I could be the pitcher . . . good thing I wasn't!

Our daughter would like Rusty, as she's a sassy lassy. Duke would appeal to our son, as so many little boys want to do well with sports and be perceived well.

I played softball one summer when I was about 7. Since we were learning, the coach rotated us through the positions. My dream was to forever be the batter. Forget letting others have a chance to hit the ball. :)

I actually played tee-ball growing up. Well I wouldn't exactly say played...I was on the field playing in the dirt. Now, I would love to be the pitcher since I am a control freak.

My son, who will be playing coach pitch for the first time, would be Grunt. He is very quiet and loves to "PLAY BALL"!

    Go Tampa Bay!!
