Kumon Educational Workbooks

***THIS CONTEST HAS NOW ENDED***

My family and I received the opportunity to try some incredible educational workbooks produced by Kumon Publishing. Zach and Abby were exceptionally excited when they saw these on the front door step:

They immediately went to work with coloring, cutting, pasting, and tracing. Abby, my 4 year old, is entering Kindergarten and she absolutely loved My First Book of Tracing and the First Steps Let's Sticker and Paste! Two of the many skills essential to starting Kindergarten are cutting and tracing and these books do a wonderful job at teaching your child how to do just that.

For older children, I would recommend the Addition and Subtraction workbooks. My rising 1st grader loves math and with every turn of the page he was intrigued with each activity.

My 18 month was NOT to be left out as he enjoyed good old fashioned coloring with My Book of Coloring. The essential skills for him were basically learning NOT to eat the crayons, but we're working on him matching the crayon to the color of the item on the page. As I browsed the Kumon Website, I saw their line of Tub Time Posters. Those would be great for him to learn his ABC's or the parts of his body.

Kumon workbooks really impressed this Momma due to the fact that they have such an array of skills to teach. Not only do they learn the basics such as Alphabet, Numbers, Reading/Writing, but they also teach them fine motor control with scissor cutting and how to hold the pencil (two skills we REALLY needed to work on in this house). I noticed that each skill is gradually introduced with every flip of the page so my children didn't get frustrated when they couldn't master a concept right away. I don't know about you, but my daughter usually just quits if it gets too hard too fast, but she didn't do that with these. Her confidence slowly built up to where she was ready to do it on her own and didn't need me by her side.

My favorite thing about Kumon? The quality of the actual Workbook. Children are so rough on their toys and belongings, but these books are very sturdy. Why wouldn't they be? They use only the highest quality paper and full color printing. The illustrations are very engaging and colorful, all three children didn't realize they were learning because it was all just so fun for them as they looked at the pictures and finished up each activity!

Are you wondering where to buy these? Popular places that sell Kumon Workbooks are Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Borders, and Book-A-Million, but you can even buy them online at Amazon.

Bottom Line:

Price Range:The workbooks we sampled ranged from $5.95-$6.95. It is WELL WORTH the price Moms! I believe the Write and Wipe Books (which I really want to try) are $9.95.

Age Range: 2 year olds all the way up to 6th Grade will LOVE these books!

Quality: Very sturdy cover, pages are thick so not easily torn. The illustrations are colorful and engaging.

Skills Taught: From counting, reading, motor skills and more... Kumon Workbooks will foster a love for learning and motivate your children to WANT to learn more.

Kids: Approve 10 times over!
Momma: Approves and plans to buy more!

So, now that you know more about these awesome workbooks, do you want to try them?! I bet you do, that's why I'm thrilled to announce that Kumon has given me the opportunity to offer one lucky Momma Findings reader two workbooks of their choice from the Kumon Preschool, Kindergarten, or Grade School workbook line.. I have THREE ways you can win:

I've never been first before!! Probably won't win then, but someone has to start things off! :-) I am homeschooling this year, so I would definitely get the grade 1 addition and grade 1 subtraction. I love how they build the skills! Thanks!

I have heard good things about Kumon! I would choose my book of rhyming words and phrases for my almost 5 year old. He is reading some already, and this would be good to teach him about more complex word patterns. I would choose my book of numbers 1-150 for my rising 2nd grader, more for his (middle school teacher) dad's concern that he get a very good foundation in math. Thanks for sharing!

The 2 books I would choose for my sweet preschooler are the numbers 1-30 and either the uppercase/lowercase letters (yes that was more than 2).

I would keep these for myself, well my daughter because she needs something tangible to learn. She's a very hands on kid and needs it right in front of her. These books would be perfect!

These are really neat, it's hard to pick which ones look the most interesting.

I think that in the 3D crafts books, the Tyrannosaurus & Apatosaurus book looks like a bunch of fun.

But in the work books, the 6th grade fractions book looks great. My daughter could get a lot of use out of it. And my son could get a lot of use out of my book of simple subtraction, but they all look like so much fun!

  • Leigh said:

Just put you on favorite status on Technorati, too :)
