Nuby Flip-It Sports Sipper

The other day we were enjoying the sun outside in our front yard. Rudy, our 16 month old, just loves being outside and would probably live out there if he could. We brought out Popsicles, Doritos, and Kool-aid to top off our fun kicking the soccer ball and looking for cloud shapes in the sky.

I had a tall glass of iced tea and it was all of a sudden disappearing by a sneaky baby who, by my to surprise, was drinking from the straw. WOW! I had no idea he knew how to drink from a straw already. That's wonderful because maybe he'll finally give up his bottle of milk he "needs" before sleepy time.

That inspired us to travel to my favorite place in the whole wide world, a place where the bulls eye is red and it makes all us Momma's smile just by going there to browse the scrapbook aisle with our Starbucks in hand...yes.. Target. I wanted to buy the Straw Sippy cups that I've seen. Rudy will LOVE them, I thought. We picked out a package, Nuby Sports Sipper. I thought well it says: No-Spill, No valves, no mess! This must be a magic sipper. I must buy it; I must buy it now!

We get home I wash it out and gladly give my big boy a tall refreshing sippy cup full of Apple Juice. To my surprise, after a few minutes he was screaming, bloodshot in madness, and throwing the sippy cup at my feet in anger. He couldn't get anything out! He sucked and sucked and sucked and nothing. I tried to maneuver the silicone straw thinking it was on there wrong. I tried sipping myself and NOTHING. It is impossible to drink from these things unless you position your tongue just right on this crazy straw. I was soooo mad that we spent money on these things and wouldn't be able to use them. I even tried to get my 4 year old daughter to try to no avail.

Bottom Line:

Concept: Wonderful and innovative
Functionality: HORRIBLE! You can't drink from this cup!
Price: Reasonable if it worked.

Kids: Do not Approve
Momma: Does not approve!

    Boos Nuby loudly!!

So far, none of their 'no-spill' cups have held true. :(

Hi, stumbled upon your site - FUN! I'm surprised about this review though! My son loves his. I mostly love it. The one thing I don't love is that it does leak, but, I haven't found a sippy that doesn't yet! I like that it holds a decent amount of juice though. Someday I'll find a real no spill though!

My son loves his cup like this. We just bought two more because he has chewed the tops of his old ones enough that they are coming apart. An idea that we tried that seemed to work, is to use a tippy sippy (one they have to tip up to get liquid from), then give them both while they are playing, at lunch, whatever. Our son got curious and started trying to get liquid from this one and finally succeeded. It does leak a little, but it's the best we've found for spills and leaks...at least till he chews it too much. :) But, on another note, not every sippy works for every child. :)
